According to Phil Rogers (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0611140207nov14,1,384018.story?coll=chi-sportswhitesox-hed):
The Sox are quietly listening to trade offers for Heath Phillips, the Triple-A left-hander who won two games for Team USA in the Olympic qualifier in August, and Jay Marshall, the left-hander who didn't walk a left-handed hitter in 58 games with high Class A Winston-Salem. Both are subject to be claimed in next month's Rule 5 draft if they aren't added to the 40-man roster.

There are 6 open spots on our 40 man roster, i don't see why these 2 wouldn't get added before the rule 5. I also don't understand why Edwardo Sierra is still on the 40 man, i realize he has great "stuff" but he still has no control.

I can't see Phillips commanding that much trade value in either scenario (added to the 40 or not). He's a little older for a prospect, with mixed success before last year, and not a flame thrower. He seems like he would be a better throw-in as part of a larger deal.

He has Texas Rangers written all over him.

sounds good to me. He was one of the top pitchers in the southern league, was he not? He's a MB clone and you've gotta have perfect location up here in the bigs (with a tighter zone, as some rookie pitchers have admitted) and I'd rather not gamble on him. If he brings us something, great!

Do you think we can get Tejada for him ? Baltimore needs starting pitching.

I think it's also telling that Phillips isn't considered for the Top 10 prospects list, whereas Haeger is #5.

Heath Phillips was added to the 40man roster today along with Carlos Vasquez, Andy Gonzalez Oneli Perez, and Dewon Day.
