Does anyone know if the '05 World Series trophy has a permanent home? For instance, will it still be on display at the Cell next year? I know we're no longer defending champs, but I hope it's still somewhere viewable by fans.

What have other teams done with their trophy after their one year reign ended? Do the Red Sox display the '04 trophy somewhere? I'm assuming that the Marlins sold off their trophy for cash.

I guess that's another question from me. Does the Marlins' previous owner from '97 get to keep that year's trophy even after he sells? Or does the trophy remain with the team regardless of ownership?

IN Kansas City they keep their trophy in the park behind a display case. I assume the White Sox will do the same.

I believe that the trophy (and the championship) stays with the team. I can't imagine that a owner would keep it out of a sale.

My guess is that it would be in the HOF area.

Well, they were remodeling the HOF gift shop last year, so they probably have a spot for it in there.

Will they take down the "Home of the 2005 World Champs", the one you can see from the Ryan? I would assume

I'd also assume they'll re-do the sign, but MAN, it's gonna be a sad day when I don't see any of those beautiful 2005 World Champions signs outside the park anymore.

There's only one way to cure that....

Depends on teh club. The 1979 Pirates gave the trophy to the Three Rivers Stadium Authority. When Three Rivers got Blewwed up, the Authority tried selling it to a private collector. MLB and the HOF got involved and it's now part of the HOF collection. It was rarely seen since 2001(Was at Fanfest this year).
The Sox have 3 displays for thier 2 copies.
One stays in the main office atrium, while the other one alternates between the 100 and 500 level gift shops.

...starting to stray off topic a little here, but does anyone know where the Bears Super Bowl XX trophy resides? Is it ever on display for the fans? What about the Bulls' six trophies?

Bulls trophies make appearances at teh uc often.
I saw the lombardi trophy at the Chicago Sports Exhibit at the Historical Society back in 03.
I belive it used to be housed at the Thompson building, and it may be at Halas Hall as we speak.

Another random question: Does anybody know if the Sox got any sort of trophy or plaque or anything for winning the WS in 1906 and 1917? IIRC, the Commissioner's Trophy was not created until the 60s or so. Did teams back then get ANYTHING? And if so, anybody know where those relics reside today?

It's not like the Stanley Cup, where the same trophy moves from year to year, so that being said the White Sox will most likely keep theirs on display at the Cell somewhere (HOF would be my best guess, much like at Cincinnati, where all three of their WS trophies are on display in their HOF exhibit)

That's a good question. I would have to think that they got something. If that's correct, I also can't imagine that stuff like that gets thrown out even after all this time. That would be great to see at the Sox HOF museum or even someplace like the Chicago History Museum.

What about the 1959 American League championship? I don't know if they had a trophy back then, but I would guess that they got some official banner ("pennant", if you will) for their accomplishment.

IIRC, the HOF museum is moving up to the 500 level for 2007. They removed it from the main gift shop behind homeplate before the start of '06 to expand the giftshop to make room for the crowds in the gift shop.

No reason to take them down. They say "2005," not "current."

Hangar, sorry to break it to you, but KW called, you're to deliver the trophy to my place by 5:00 today for safekeeping.

That's true, but I still assume they'll take down the ones on 35th Street. Maybe they won't paint over the one facing the Ryan, but it just seems to me that the banners on the light standards would be the only reminder of past championships.

I think keeping up the one on the Dan Ryan will just look tacky in 2007...I love looking at it every day, but its 2007...it would be like driving by Soliders Field and they have a sign up "Home of the 1985 SB Champs" up still...2006 was our year to stick our chest out and flex our muslces, but its over, just make it "Home of the White Sox"....again I will hate to not see it, but if it was my choice...

I heard an interview about 1+ years ago (don't remember who or when) that said they used to give the players a watch fob.

This link mentions a watch fob given to Shoeless Joe Jackson for winning the 1917 World Series. They also show a photo of a charm given to a player on the 1906 team.

Another watch fob link- for the Red Sox winning the 1903 World Series

Hope that helps.
