Ya I thought about going to that one but there is no way I am going to miss a Chicago St. Pats day on a Saturday or any day for that fact. I think I may go the first weekend. The 10th starts my birthday celebrations and it will end on the 24th.

Mary, I hate it that every year they play the Angels in Tempe on a weekday. Every year I hope they'll play in Tempe on a Sat or Sun and it never seems to happen.

Yeah, I know what you mean even though it has no direct effect on me since I'm self-employed.

But I'm betting that the St. Pat's weekend in Tucson will be a fun time. I'm thinking I might even stay down there rather than trek back-and-forth to Chandler, especially if there's anything going on with other WSIers after Saturday's game--and I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case!

They end the pre-season with a split-squad game in B'ham, followed by a 2-game set in ATL (again). No Milwaukee this year.

I might try to hit 2 of these 3 games. B'ham is only a couple hours drive from ATL. Here's my review of the Hoover Met from 2005:
Hoover Metropolitan Stadium is located off the ring highway around Birmingham in a fairly ritzy southern suburb. It costs $3 to park, but most box seats can be had for $8 on the day of the game. We went on a comfortable Tuesday night, and there were maybe 200 fans in attendance. They must draw much, much larger crowds on weekends. The Hoover Met has standard concessions plus Little Caesars Pizza, and a generic beer costs $4.00. The playing field is huge. Posted signs indicate 340' down the lines and 405' to CF, and the OF wall is about 20 feet high. Their mascot is some kind of dog.

Hoover also is home to the Aldridge Gardens (http://www.aldridgegardens.com/visitor.htm) (free) and a huge shopping mall (http://www.riverchasegalleria.com/html/index4.asp). Bíham has an extensive civil rights museum (http://www.bcri.org/index.html), in addition to the zoo, science museum, etc. typical of most U.S. cities.

Update: FWIW, Hoover is featured in MTV's HS football show.

I predict 3-5 separate threads started today announcing the Sox 2007 Spring Schedule.

OK I'll be the first to ask. When do tix go on sale?

I usually like to stay up in the Phoenix area, but it doesn't look good this year. Also for you AZers, we need a replacement bar for the belated Tempe McDuffy's. Any suggestions?

Well, depends on what you're looking for and where you're staying. I always go with Skip and Jan's in Tempe--nothing fancy, but decent cheap bar food and the owners are Sox fans. I also like Majerle's and Alice Cooperstown in downtown Phoenix, but they're more money for drinks and food.

Also, I believe there's still a McDuffy's up north somewhere, but I'm not sure where. Maybe someone else knows.

McDuffy's has a location in Peoria (AZ, not IL) and per their website, they will be opening in Chandler in early 2007 although it doesn't say exactly where in Chandler.

Interesting! But I was never a very big McDuffy's fan, especially during college football season when they charged a cover (at least in Tempe). Plus I thought their food and drink prices were way too pricey. But I guess if it's in my 'hood, I'll have to check it out!
