Espn has been saying that Biggio and the Astros are not close to a new contract.

I'd take him in 2007 as a back-up. The guy is a gamer, albeit an old gamer.

I like Biggio but who would he replace?

Hell no. Not for the price he would command, and the limited playing time he'd see.

The Astros want him to get his 3,000th hit in an Astros uniform next season. The only issue is pay, they want him to take a pay cut for his last season and justifiably so. He'll be 41 next season and while still a decent major league hitter, is in serious decline and not worth $4M, especially when Chris Burke will be playing 2B for them most of the time.

I'd assume he'd have a job waiting for him in the Astros organization once he retires. Biggio would make a great manager.

I agree, I can easily see Biggio in the Astros organization as a minor-league manager, working up to the big club to coach or eventually manage.
