The big anniversary is upon us Thursday. How should it be properly commemorated? I'm thinking: Wearing the replica ring, watching game four and crying like a baby. Perhaps an anniversary cake is in order as well.

I noticed that the Game 4 thread has been stuck for posterity at the top of the Game Threads forum; how about if the Game 4 post-game thread was stuck at the top of this forum so we all can easily enjoy it and reminisce again! :bandance:

I think we should all get together and do a champagne toast to the Sox being the only team to ever win a world series on 10-26-2005. That is just one Dolphins fan's opinion anyway.

I imagine that we will not be able to come to some sort of consensus on this, so I'm going to have to vote for the WSI fallback position:

I'll probably do the same thing I've done every day for the past month...sit down with a beer and wonder how in the #@$% a team with that much talent couldn't even win the wildcard. Then I will console myself with the thought that the Bears just might do something this year.

Because "great" does not, and can not, define a Chuck Norris movie. The only appropriate adjective is a roundhouse kick to the face.

It's great because it works in multiple ways. Cardinals and Tigers have yet to play Game 4.

And I'm commemorating by watching the top of the 8th and bottom of the 9th, I just don't have the patience to watch the whole thing. Yet there will never been a Game 200[5].

Buck and McCarver sound like they're at a funeral. Absolutely zero emotion or excitement. Ugh.

Another way I commemorated was by updating the October 26 page on Wiki.

I like the idea about replaying the game at the United Center since this was where DumpJerry, my girls and I were that night. However, since that is not an option.....

I think I will just put "Thunderstruck" in the cd player as I take the kids to school and blatently sport my White Sox World Series Championship hat all day (though technically...work does not allow it), and look forward to the 2007 season.

I have my black longsleeve button down with the world series champion logo on the pocket.

Like ChiSoxGirl, I accessorized today with my World Series pin, worn proudly on the lapel of my sport coat.

I wore my Sox necktie recently to commemorate the end of the season.

How do you measure a year in the life?"

i posted this as a myspce bulletin earlier and though it was appropriate for this thread:

Let's all take a moment to reflect today, October 26th, one year to the day the 2005 Chicago White Sox brought the great city of Chicago it's first baseball title in 88 long hard seasons of suffering. Remember sweaty Freddy Garcia's heroic performance. Jermaine Dye's clutch game winning single to score Willie Harris. The nervous 9th inning and Juan Uribe's fearless diving-into-the-stands catch and later charging-through-the-infield to just ever so barely get the most glorious out number three. Remember big fat Bobby Jenks on the mound to get the save raising his arms high, cementing his status as Chicago fat guy cult icon. Remember the chaotic elation on the streets of every different neighborhood in the city and suburbs. And the clueless national media types thought this is a "Cubs town?" If sticking it to all the naysayers wasn't vindicating enough, the marquee at Wrigley Field read: "CONGRATULATIONS CHICAGO WHITE SOX."
One year later. How does it feel to be a Sox fan now? I ask only you real fans who were fans through thick and thin. We aren't such a defensive, miserable, eternally pessimistic bunch anymore. Before the '05 Sox our entire identity was based on how much we're not the Cubs. We almost outdrew them this year. We beat them in television ratings. We didn't even notice they existied this year except for a sucker punch in May. The days of sitting in a sea of empty blue seats screaming at Royce Clayton in your "cubs suck" t-shirt are over. A loss is a little bit easier to take now.
So the 2006 season was a major disappointment. I still can't believe we didn't even make the playoffs. But I think we all didn't have that sick feeling of unbelievable frustration and hopelessness when the last out was made this year. Sure you were upset but at least you didn't have the say "89 years." I think all this season we were high on '05 still.
So take today to pull out your World Series DVD or book or newspaper. The great season with 99 wins. El Duque with the bases loaded. A.J. striking out and running to first. The dominating starters and 4 complete games in a row. Joe Crede doing everything. Konerko's slam and Scotty Pods walk off. Geoff Blum. 11-1. The millions of fans at the glorious parade. Remember it all today, oneyear later, and maybe it will finally sink in.

Greg Gumbel, CBS sportscaster

"I was tied up with work and couldn't catch the whole game. But when it did end, a few things were crystal clear. One, I was happy for all those people who gave support to the Sox down through the years. Two, I flashed back to my all-time favorite Sox team, the '59 crew with Aparicio and Pierce and Fox and Klu and Lown and Staley. And three, I thanked my lucky stars I was never a Cub fan."

Hugh Dellios, Chicago Tribune foreign editor

"I was in Caracas to cover the Venezuelans watching the White Sox, given their long relationship going back to Luis Aparicio and Chico Carrasquel. I had interviewed Freddy Garcia's father and he invited me back to watch Game 4. It was at the big house Fred Jr. had bought for Fred Sr. after the son made it big. When they won, the father leaped out of his chair and shouted, 'Freddy won! Freddy won!' He ran into the kitchen and came back with three beers, announced, 'I don't drink!' and then he downed one of them."

I like this one. :)

BTW, today is a busy day for me, however, I'll be thinking about the Sox when I get a little down time to savor the greatest sports day of my 41 years [so far]... it'll be a great day.
