Filed for free agency, becoming the first '06 Sox to depart (I think).

Thanks for the memories, Agustin, you...um...were friendly that time I talked to you in the Knights bullpen.

He actually did alright for the Sox in '06. Best of luck to him wherever he goes except against the Sox or except if he ever winds up on the North Side.

This was the guy that pitched for a couple weeks when Politte went on the DL, right?

If so, then he actually did a pretty decent job, or at least he did better than Politte had done.

That's like saying you're the tallest midget. Montero sucks. Better than Politte this year, but still pretty bad.

Hey, at least he came in games and threw strikes. He only walked 2 guys in 15 innings. That's better than just about anyone in the BP down the last few weeks of September. I was actually kind of surprised he didn't get a look again in September considering the awful state of the pen and the tryout like system they had going for some guys.

He gave our pitching instructors more experience.

As soon as he got sent down for good, he immediately regressed. I think his ERA bloated up to close to 5 on the season in Charlotte. We have better options in AAA than Montero IMO. No real big loss here...

About the only good thing about this guy is that you can bring his name up when you meet someone that tries to tell you they are a Sox fan.

You say, oh yea? Then what number did Montero wear when he was on the Sox...

They will probably not know.

I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but honestly, off the top of my head, I don't even remember. :o: I want to say 50, but I'm not sure.

I won't look... but I vaugly remember it being something like 56-57, or some combonation of the numbers 5,6,7

Right size, wrong shape. He was No. 65.

That is correct. I thought it was retired for Kelly Wunsch.

To be honest, I wasn't sure either...but I figure after I asked somebody that question they wouldn't even know who he was...so I could make up a number...

Agustin Montero is a juicer and a mediocre pitcher. He didn't do anything notable for us. Gave us eh innings out of the pen. I dreaded him warming, and I disliked him very much.

Thanks to him, our 20-2 romp over the Cards became a 20-6 squeaker.

BTW, if this puts an end to Agustin Montero come back now threads, I'll start an Aaron Rowand appreciation thread.

granted, he didn't have as good a season as politte, nelson, logan, cotts or mccarthy, but he managed.

Its kind of funny, especially the more obscure the player who has moved on!

Maybe he's got a little Joe Randa/Joe Nathan in him.
