I find it funny how the the scum laden A's "strategy" of trying to hit the 3-run homer has already ruined 2 innings for them by way of double play.

Soon to be three after Scutary makes an out here.

Why does it come up "the scum laden the scum laden?"

I thought everyone had this figured by now.

The abbreviation for Athletics with an apostrophe is automatically filtered to be preceded by the phrase "the scum laden ", the same way profanity is filtered into asterisks. That's why you see "the the scum laden" so often. Leave out the article "the" and everything else and just use the abbreviation and it will look right.

Just got home from the game with my tennis buddy from Detroit. Quite a game, and in spite of the lopsided score, a lot closer than it looked with the A's threatening with hits and baserunners every damn inning until late in the game. Robertson's three Ks on the A's with runners on 2nd and 3rd no outs was one of the best playoff pitching performances ever, as well as the ground balls that lead to four double plays. I'll post some of the pix tomorrow (took a DSLR and big lens for our 3rd row seats) ... off to bed now.

He's only pitched one inning so far... I wouldn't go as far as saying he's going to have a bad night quite yet. Maybe he just needs to get into a groove. Plus, a leadoff double and possibly a tie game after this inning could be a boost to his confidance.

Have you watched him pitch against other teams, besides the Sox? He's good. I've been following his career and he does this a lot - it takes him a few innings to warm up sometimes. The Sox were suprisingly one of the only teams that could really hit off of him this season.

You could be right, that something's not going right for him tonight, but I'm just saying I don't want to give in quite yet because I've seen him struggle in the beginning only to biuld some confidance and nail the rest of the batters.

will you want them to win it again?

when would you stop wanting detroit to win it?

1. Verlander is awesome.
2. They remind me of the 2005 Sox
3. I don't really have a problem with the fact that they're in our division because if they win it all, at least it means that we didn't get beat by a sucky team that couldn't hack it (okay, so the Twins hurt, but I'm pretending that didn't happen).
3. The A's are stupid and I don't like them.

This really is the Tigers year. They lose their 1B to a calf injury, so to get another lefty in the lineup they stick in some scrub who hit .272 with 1 HR all season and he goes 2-3 with 1 HR and 4 RBI through 6 innings.

This is just their year.

I don't want the Tigers to win now, but not as much as I don't want the A's to win. The A's have been beating up on the White Sox for years, even after the Sox went into the AL Central. They have even been laughing about it. Sadly, the least offensive team from the AL to make the postseason was the Yankees. It's a bad October. But the Tigers just had a good year and aren't nearly as offensive as the A's.

When your team is built around taking walks, it's much harder to actually get hits when you need them.

Oakland's entire offensive strategy is built to beat up on bad pitchers. That's nice when you face Tampa's 4th starter, but it doesn't work against a team stacked with front end starters.

I gotta say, watching these bastards bleed is entertaining. 2 hits? 2 stinking hits? That's all they could muster! I wish the Sox were still in it, but I'm sure glad the As are not.

I've watched much less postseason baseball than I initially thought I would. I don't enjoy watching the Tigers winning in such easy fashion, and I was really bored by the NL series. I think the Mets/Cards will heat up; and Tigers/NL should be a good World Series.

But I'm now beginning to wonder what a lot of the country thought last year. Sure, nearly all the Sox playoff games were tight/exciting to us, but we swept 2 of the series and won the other one 4-1. I guess that had to be boring for some folks.

Yeah, but last year there were other very good series. Astros and Braves, Astros and Cards, Angels and Yankees...I guess every series that didn't involve the Sox (I thought they were good, but looking at it from a baseball fan's perspective, all those series sucked).

This year, the Tigers took the ALDS in 4, the A's in 3...the Cards took the NLDS in 4, the Mets 3. The Tigers now lead the ALCS 3-0, and the Cards couldn't do a thing in game one of the NLCS. This is a snoozefest.

In this series I found out I was rooting for the A's because of my long lasting love for Billy Beane:?:  and not due to the fact Frank Thomas has been my favorite player for over 15 years.....

One question for the anti-FOBBs (which I thought I was before being told otherwise...plus they seem to know everything)....will I be rooting for the Tigers over the Cardinals (if they make it) because I would like an American League team to win it....OR....because the Tigers have more ex-Cubs on their roster and I am actually a closet Cub fan???

No kidding. This is a completely different team that SWEPT the Twins a week ago. They are taking horrible at bats, they are making defensive gaffes, and the pitching isn't there.

This just pisses me off... :angry:It should piss you off, ma. It is NOT a different team. The Twinks set their sights on the division title and then laid down. That's what I was telling you. The FOBB's are not a good team. The Twinks are much better. It was a travesty. These is the real FOBB's. They may pull this out, but I certainly hope they won't so every ****ing Billy Beane ass sucker on this site can be ridiculed to the full extent possible.

I thought you were rooting for the A's because Milton Bradley is such a class guy and Eric Chavez is your favorite third baseman, with all those gold gloves. Really, an A's fan told me in 1993 he HATED the White Sox because he HATED Frank Thomas and Ozzie Guillen. Now he probably hates his own team as well as the Sox.

I really don't care who care who players used to play for. I cheered hard for Ron Santo in 1974. (Richard Lindberg has asserted that Sox fans cheer a little louder for the ex-Cubs on their team. I don't believe that is true.) Right now, as in 1974, it's the A's I hate the most. Next week it will be the Tigers that I hate the most.

Knowing how much Cubs fans hate both the Mets and the Cards, I know they will be enjoying "just missing" that 1945 rematch.

I guess that had to be boring for some folks.Oh quit trying to excuse your A's love. You went FOBB and got blown out. Suck it up.

Yes the World Series sucked last year from a non-Sox perspective. I didn't have any allegiance and was just hoping for some drama. Yeah, that didn't come close to happening.

To be honest with you, even though I am extremely happy with the way things are going in the playoffs, I still find myself starved for drama. I think about game 2 against the Yankees, when the Tigers led by one with Jones walking out in the ninth...my stomach was churning through the entire game. Wasn't at the game, wasn't at a bar, wasn't with a bunch of friends, but that was one of the best, if not the best baseball experience I've ever had because every single move was so important and the season was on the line.

I know I need to be careful what I wish for but I really want to see something special or memorable...or at least something that I know would make me want to watch even if my favorite team wasn't playing.

There was still drama, even if it was 4 games and done. Walk-off homerun? 14-inning game? Maybe I'm biased, but the Astros tying both of those games, and sending the game further, was drama...just as a baseball fan.

...

Game 2 certainly didn't come close to any drama. Game 3 was light years from being dramatic. Game 4 was over before it started. All of them were closer than Game 1 -- where the Sox took a 1-run lead into their last at-bat.

They were great games.

Yes, even Game 1 was a good game. Either team could have won every 4 of those games...unlike this year's playoffs, none of the games have even come close to the drama in the World Series last year.

That was exciting baseball, and not just because the Sox were playing.

If there are any FOBB's out there who still think the A's strategy works, they should be banished to Mars or something like that. When the pitcher throws strikes, it's pretty ****ing hard to take a walk. Rogers was throwing strikes, and therefore, the A's crumpled like an overcaffinated oragami artist.:?:

The A's will be swept and the Tigers are going to the World Series. I'd love to see the grin on FWC's face when the A's lose tommorow. It might stretch from Kitchener, Ontario, to Chicago.:)

There is a HUGE difference between still liking your favorite player (Big Frank)after he leaves your favorite team (White Sox) vs hating a player (AJ) until he comes to your favorite team (White Sox).

I would wager that your FOBB loving A's buddy has become a big Big Frank fan.

So you are the arbiter and wholly omniscient being who knows everyone's reasons for rooting for the A's over the division rival Tigers, and it all comes back to worshipping Billy Beane and not for some other, more banal reason (like wanting to see Frank Thomas win a World Series ring in a series he actually plays in)?

It just boggles my mind that a Sox fan can not understand that. I don't care if you want the Tigers or A's to win, but to accuse someone of being a FOBB because they like Frank is hilarious. If Frank was not on the A's, I would definately be rooting for the Tigers.

I think these anti-FOBBs have let Billy Beane get to them a little too much. I never let that sabermetrics stuff bother me. You're rooting for Magglio Ordonez, a guy who did a hell of lot less for the White Sox franchise than its greatest player ever.

You remember him, right? The White Sox player who said that the Sox weren't interested in winning, only money (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=42554)? um... no, that's not what I meant at all, KW...:tongue:Voo, I'm astonished you are so naive. If cheese's boy Beane wins a Series it not only negates what the Sox did in the "mainsteam media", it makes it look like total luck. KW, Ozzie, the '05 team, it will all be dissed as a pure luck abberation, basically dismissed. I don't want that. Sure, all you FOBB's can say it doesn't matter, but our previous champions, the Bears and Bulls were historically revered. The A's wipe out the Sox on a national scale. I guess you don't see that locally, but it is the case. Beane made much of his popularity by ripping on KW, being the anti-KW. It's a bit shocking you FOBB's either don't know this or don't care.
