Cue the Sportscenter lead-ins... barring any unforeseen injuries, four MLB players will hit their 500th home run in the 2007 MLB season.

Frank Thomas, needs 13
Jim Thome, needs 28
Manny Ramirez, needs 30
Alex Rodriguez, needs 36

and had Gary Sheffield not missed so many ABs in 2006, he could have been on tap for #500 in 2007.. as he is 45 shy of 500.

Pretty amazing stuff and should be fun to watch, as we witness these milestones being achieved.

And the great thing is that all four seem to be steroid free. (Well I'm not including Sheffield, that jerk can rot in hell)

Well, he's been around for a while now. I think it was about 4-5 years ago that it was predidcted at his current pace, he'd hit well over 800 homers.

Screw Sheffield.
Good luck to the others, though.

Sad to say, this number means nothing. I don't know if there is a "new 500" because of the way cheaters have infected the game. Congrats to Frank for prolly achieving a personal goal. That's about it.

Can't wait to see Big Jim blast #500 next season. Hopefully it will be at the Cell.

That would be nice, as long as he doesn't finish the season with 510.

Maybe this is tacky on my part, but I'd actually get a kick out of it if he hit home run number 500 at Jacobs Field. I'd love to see what kind of tacky reaction the Indians fans would come up with if that milestone came off of their pitching, and they had to watch it.

Oh, yeah! I like that idea. It would be good to rub their faces in it after all the crummy treatment he endured at their hands this year.

:o:

Would he be the youngest to 500 at this pace? He'll turn 32 next July 27.

Also, who has had the most career HRs without a World Series appearance? I know Ernie Banks hit 512 - is that the record? How many did Barroid hit before the Giants made it to the World Series?

Sammy Sosa holds the record for most home runs without a World Series appearance with 588. Barroid IIRC, hit his 600th home run in August of 2002, which was two months shy of him appearing in his first World Series.
