Yes

There are lots of announcers who are worse than Hawk.

I know his faults, but I voted yes because A. he roots for the Sox, and B. who cares?

I like him. Not saying he his bad, but I have heard plenty far worse than him.

I voted yes only because there's no "I'm pretty much indifferent" category. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for a guy who's not exactly a great broadcaster.

I like him. So he's shticky. So what? Sure, he's not to everybody's liking which is fair enough, but he does have passion for the Sox and knows the game. Much better than Len Kasper Milquetoast on the other side of town. I hope that's not the kind of annoncer some of you out there want. :o:

Yes, because I'd much rather have him than some sterile announcer who doesn't care what the team he's announcing for does.

10-07-2006, 01:10 PM
Yes, I like him. He is a fan of the club, a good quality for a local announcer. However, sometimes he gets so pissed when they're losing that he just completely shuts up like me.

I like that he's a homer but thats about it.
He pouts, whines and the other half of the time doesnt say anything. I dislike Hawk.

I love listening to Hawk, he just has so much passion for the team that it makes is calls so much more better, plus I don't mind hearing some of his stories back when he was playing with Carl Yastrzemski no matter how many times I hear them

Hawk is great. DJ is OK but Wimpy was so much better.

The thing I love about him the most is his homerism. He's awesome.

Rockman218
10-07-2006, 03:35 PM
Yes. Allthough it'd be nice to listen to him announce a whole game instead of letting DJ. take control of the mic for the middle innings. It's not the same when DJ takes the play by play

I love Hawk more during the playoffs than during the regular season. Only by comparing him to other announcers do you realize how good he truly is.

My mom said it best: "I don't like these annoucers [during the playoffs]. They sound like they are falling asleep. The White Sox announcers are not like that."

Hawk may be a "homer," but at least he is entertaining. I don't watch baseball to be bored, though ESPN and Fox make it difficult not to be.

I used to like Hawk a lot, but in the limited number of games where I heard him announce, I was tempted to switch to Farmio and Singleton. But I remembered how much I cannot stand the two of them, so I stuck with the TV guys.

All four of our announcers are substandard.

You and I think alike. I like him too, because he's a homer. When I watch Sox games, I want to hear a homer. Hawk fits the bill.

He's absolutely garbage. He adds nothing to the game and hasn't had an original thought in years.

The thing I love about him the most is his homerism. He's awesome. His homerism alone is priceless. I do not understand how people around here can hate him. He wants the Sox to win as bad as I do, and when the Sox play like ****, he gets pissed, just as I do.

For those who say he is substandard or brings nothing to the booth, what the hell do you want? Do you tune in to listen to Hawk, or watch the Sox???

And I enjoy all the stupid sayings that he has, its called a personality.

I like Hawk.Even though he can blab on sometimes,
and his pregnant pauses when the Sox are losing
drive me crazy,i'll take Hawk over Farmio,Singleton
and DJ combined.

I agree 100%. That's exactly how I feel about him. Didn't like him when he was playing, don't like him now.

He's an embarassment to the profession. And the Sox.

Hawks Passionate about our team, so I give him a passing grade, but he is an arrogant, boring sob most the time.

I heard AJ on the score the other morning, saying how Konerko dfoes a wicked immitation of Hawk. I was havin a hard time picturing PK screwin around like that, as he seems so serious all the time. Good to hear he has a goofy side to.

I voted I do. He gets into the game when the Sox are doing good but, when the sox aren't doing so hot I dont like him because he talks about how bad this team has got and how somebody has to step up also I heard this alot "they have no heart." Seriously it got really old by mid August!

I don't believe in public poles. When some feel theirs is not a majority opinion they will hesitate to vote.

Yep. those generic broadcasting voices are ridiculous, especially when women use them. Gayle Fischer needs to stop and just talk regular, as well as some others.

Sometimes it's hard to tell some of these guys apart. It's almost as if you could lose one, plug in another, and really not know the difference.

Without catch phrases and such, it makes for a truly vanilla broadcast.

He's like a non-retarded Harry Caray. Lots of stupid catch phrases, but he actually knows his stuff. He has a tendency towards hyperbole, but he's a big time homer, and I like that.
Ohhh, I have a great idea! After he's left us, lets put stupid caricatures of him all over the place, and line up celebrities to say, "He gone!" and "Stretch!" thoughout the game. Then, we'll hire the marketing guy who came up with that stuff as the club ****ing president!

Listening to Hawk is like sitting with your granpa that just bleeds for the White Sox. Sorry he isn't like all of the other media members, who can't keep the letters T.O. out of their mouths.

This guy cares about one thing, and that's White Sox baseball. Hell, I think we can relate. Sure, he overuses his sayings, but when a game is close and the Sox pull it out, there's nobody better. Why? Because you know that guy is feeling the exact same amount of happiness, if not more, than you are. And I think that's pretty damn cool.

Hawk (& Wimpy) and DJ are the only Sox announcers I know. Me being 22... I grew up listening to Hawk on TV. I love him. He's the voice of the White Sox for me.

I appreciate a guy who roots for the Sox, but not when they've been using the same lines every year for years now and telling the SAME damn stories and making the same damn apologies for Management.

He's a hindrance to the broadcasts, IMO. DJ is a good broadcaster, especially coupled with someone else (The Fox Cubs game, with the Fight; Black Jack). Hawk? No. Sorry. I think he's crappy.

Cute the first time around; not ten years later.

When Rooney was here I would always mute every telecast and listen to Rooney and Farmer.

I started listening to Hawk and DJ in 2006 with the changes in the radio booth.

Before April was over I resumed muting the TV broadcast and listening to music or Farmer / Singleton. :o:

The White Sox need to hire at least one professional PBP announcer.
