The kitties by losing their last 5 have to now deal with October in the Bronx.

How visting managers *love* the Irish tenor's 6 minute version of God Bless America.

I think the kitties are toast. A-Rod is batting SIXTH :o:

No teal. In a perfect world the playoffs would be cancelled and no one would win but since that is unlikely to happen go Yankees. Detroit, Minnesota, Oakland and the national league can all go to hell. The Yankees winning their 27th just doesn't phase me.

Watching this game is giving me pains of nostalgia.

Me,too.Let's start with a Father's Day tilt between the
White Sox and Yanks in 2000.The Sox score 9 in the first off
El Duque, highlighted by a grand slam by Jose Valentin in his second at bat
of the inning.Frank Thomas made the first and last out of the inning.
The Sox and Jim Parque (remember him??) cruise past
the Yankmees in a 17-4 shellac job.This completes a
7-0 road trip against the Tribe and Yankmees.Later,Jerry Manuel
would point to this stretch as the one that won the Sox the A.L.
Central. It was Bat Day at Yankmee Stadium as well.Looks like
the Yanks forgot theirs on that day.

Memories light the corners of my mind.....:D:

Well, if Detoilet were playing Kansas City right now, they (Detoilet) would probably be down 10-0.

As for me personally, I hate the Yankees as well, and I certainly do not want to see them win anything. However, I am forced to pick in this series, and I do hope they win, and then go on to get their ass kicked by Oakland.

I just can not root for Detroit, basically because of their fans.

This season is the first time that they have been good since I have been alive (I'm 23), and all the jagbags that came to Comiskey this year to root for Detoilet were complete morons.

They have to be some of the most idiotic fans in sports. They had absolutely no clue what they were talking about, didn't know a thing about the game or their team, embarrassed themselves with their behavior and just all around looked like a complete waste of human life.

As I mentioned in a thread a little while ago, some were flub fans in disguise, just pathetic. Some didn't even bother trying to cover up their flub roots. One guy had a Rodriguez Detroit jersey on and a flubs hat. Boy did I let that guy have it, and it felt GOOOOOD!

Anyway, for the most part, I have found Yankees fans to be both respectful and knowledgable about the game. Of course there are always a few losers, but when the Yankees came here, I had quite a few intelligent discussions about baseball with some very polite Yankee fans.

And I certainly hate New York, but the Detoilet fans made Yankees fans look like graduates of MIT.

Fair enough. Long hair looks good on some people, but certainly not him.

However, I am so very glad that you did not call his hair a mullet!

Back when Detoilet was in town for the last series at Comiskey, someone on 670 (don't remember who) was going on and on about how Mags needs to get his mullet cut!

Hey moron! Guess what?? Mags's hair IS NOT a mullet!!!! Do you know what a mullet is??? Long hair does not equal a mullet you uneducated piece of excrament.

I CAN NOT stand people who are about 2-3 years BEHIND a current lingo, fad, phrase, style, etc. and then try and use it like they know what the hell they are talking about.

Examples include, but are not limited to, the use of the phrase "bling, bling". Trucker hats cocked to the side, women's jeans on men, men's capri pants and so on.

And Jeter is going ape **** tonight! WOW!:o:

And in extreme cases, shaved or buzed on the sides. Billy Ray Cyrus had this rare breed of mullet, known in many circles as the POWERMULLET.

Long hair all over, like Mags has, is not a mullet.

Personally would like to see Detroit over NY and then lose to Oak in the ALCS.

A good game, but looked like the Tigers were a little flustered (lack of better word). Robertson defensive plays, Yankees agressive on the bases (Giambi SB, Advancing an extra base on hits), etc. Tigers will go as far as their SP. Yankees show they can have some shady pitching (bullpen tonight) but still outscore you

I was in the bleachers for this game last night, and despite the hitting of Jeter, I felt like Detoilet gave this game away with their poor situational hitting. The Yanks bullpen is awful as well. If Verlander throws a gem, the pinstripes are in trouble. They do not want to return to Detoilet tied. At all.

No teal. In a perfect world the playoffs would be cancelled and no one would win but since that is unlikely to happen go Yankees. Detroit, Minnesota, Oakland and the national league can all go to hell. The Yankees winning their 27th just doesn't phase me.

Exactly.

There was a comedian that summed it up perfectly. He said that rooting for the Yankees is like going to a casino and betting on the house to win. It's expected.

The whole 7th inning strech at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs should be stopped by Selig.

In 2003 I was at Game 7 of the ALCS and from the time it took Bob Sheppard to introduce the tenor, for the tenor to sing GBA, followed by "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and then Cotteneye Joe ( I'm serious ) took 8 MINUTES. All this time Pedro is standing on the mound....

Pedro got thru the 7th and then was removed by Grady Little to start the 8th

Bonnie Bernstein said the officials met and that the decision to delay the game was made in part because Mussina's older and wouldn't be able to come back after a lengthy delay. That's what she actualy said during the delay. No mention of the effect on the Tigers.

Then when the game was cancelled she said:

"the decison was made taking both teams into accounts. Mike Mussina, being an old pitcher, would have a difficult time coming back after a lengthy delay, and the Yankees really don't want to have to get into that bullpen. Major League Baseball doesn't want the weather to determine the outcome of such an important series."

Then she said:

"and, on the Tigers' side, Justin Verlander has never pitched here in Yankee Stadium. And he's never faced the real Yankee lineup. Derek Jeter wasn't in the lineup the one time Verlander pitched against the Yankees. So there are reasons for both teams to want to postpone this game until tomorrow."

How do those two things equate? What does facing Jeter have to do with wearing out a bullpen?

The Yankees protested that they didn't want to play the game. The Tigers were never asked. They were told the game would start at 10. They sent Verlander out to warm up. Mussina didn't.

The league is looking out for the thier own best interests, which means the Yankees winning.

I'm glad they cancelled the game because rain delays like this stink to watch. But to me it sounds like MLB based their decision on the effect on the Yankees.

Obviously I'm biased so I'd like to know what some non Tiger/Yankee fans think about this.

Yeah, she mentioned it more than once that a reason for the delay a thought in the night's consideration was Mussina's age and the liklihood of losing him if starting and then having a delay, and each time I was thinking 'are you kidding me?'

Meanwhile, the ESPN manlove (their own words) for Jeter was a bit much today (started in noon game pregame and went on throughout the day and the delay), to the point that many Yankees fans on Yankee boards said they were nauseated because of it.

New York is the center of the universe. As a lifelong Chicagoan, I've had that fact shoved down my throat more times than I can count, and not just in sports. (The financial industry, where I work, is another good example. The two largest futures exchanges in the world are in Chicago, yet NY is the "capital" of capital.)

Even though it's not surprising, it is disgusting to see the overt fawning and kowtowing to the New York team that determined the postponement (is that a word?) of last night's game. That's just wrong.

Looks like MLB did screw up

from the NY Daily News

This is what they call home-field advantage in the baseball playoffs. The Yankee starter, Mike Mussina, sits comfortably in the dugout, while Yankee officials lobby with the league to postpone a playoff game because of drizzle. The Tigers' starter, Justin Verlander, does some soft tossing, wastes precious muscle reps, and gripes a bit that the Yankees got a tip about the cancellation before the Tigers knew.
Here is a different kind of Water-gate: Now those wealthy Yankees own the clouds and the puddles, too.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/story/458672p-385952c.html

Even Steinbrenner was mad

After Major League Baseball waited until almost 10 p.m. to call last night's contest - first pitch was scheduled for 8:09 p.m. - Steinbrenner fired a high hard one at the commissioner's office for failing to either start the game before the rain came or to cancel it much earlier in the evening.
"I didn't like it," Steinbrenner fumed. "I think we should have played (or) we should have made up our minds earlier (to call it). One of the two." When asked if the blame lay squarely with MLB, a steamed Steinbrenner barked, "Yeah, sure."

From what I read, it didn't sound like it was raining hard enough at start time to delay the game. I was not home yesterday, so I can't make an accurate observation. If that was the case, I think they could've played through it. Hell, the Yankees/Angels played through the rain last year. It wasn't exactly ideal conditions, but they really didn't have a choice. Now, the storm that hit the Bronx at 11:15 EDT, that's a different story. If anyone actually saw the yellow and red colors on the radar, then you either have to make the decison at gametime to play or call it. What is the point of waiting around? Someone really screwed up, and since the Yankees are involved, the conspiracy theories will be in full force. From the reports, one can make a case MLB went with the Yankees best interest. The drama unfolds...

Hilarious to look at Yankee boards and see them all surprised thinking Zumaya came out of nowhere. That's what happens when the sports outlets have an east cost bias.

Think the Tigers have a great chance to win the series, thought so after game 1. They came back nicely in that game and were iffy due to some mental/nervous mistakes, now they're ready to play. Better pitching staff, and that's all that matters in the end

Detroit fought hard in Game 1, but their inexperience did them in that night. Now with a win, and the first glimpse of October baseball in Detroit since '87 is not pretty for the Yankmee$. Then again, Detoilet has Kenny Rogers going.....

Today was the best baseball day in a very long time for me.

I realized something. I'm not really a hockey or basketball fan. I thought I was. I grew up watching the Wings and Pistons. Saw the Wings do ok in the late 80s, saw them win 3 cups. Same with the Pistons. I rooted like hell for both of those teams during the ups and downs. I had passion, more so for the Wings than Pistons but that's another story.

My emotions today were a fraction of my emotions during those games. I was sick to my stomach with anxiety. When Jones came into the 9th I kept switching my radio on and off while at work today. I'd close my office door because I'd hear people talking about it. Then I'd turn it back on. Then I'd check a MB. that's a reflection on the yankee lineup more than Todd Jones. He's had a good year outside of one week. He's just not a strikeout pitcher.

Leyland said in his psot game that he hopes this showed people taht Detroit is a real playoff team.

CLR01
10-05-2006, 08:22 PM
MLB must have asked the Yankees to throw the game to shut the whiners in Detroit up. Reports are that at one point, during his crying to league officials, Jim Leyland turned blue and collapsed. It is unknown whether he was holding his breath like a child or if he died.

It's ok though, it'll be much sweeter to see the Yankees finish it off in Detoilet.

At first, I was hoping the Yankees would win. But then something happened at the beginning of game #1...I had to listen to Buck & McCarver spew their Yankees love and look at the smug faces on those Yankees fans at the game.

As much as I don't like some players on the Tigers, they deserve to be there and win this series after being in first in a tough division for almost 5 months. And I'd love to see the reaction in NY after the Yanks go out in the 1st round. Go Tigers!!

Yes, I do want the Yankees to win. I can't stand Minnesota and I can't stand Detoilet.

I can't stand Minnesota the most because of the rivalry that we have had with them for the past 6 or so years.

Detoilet has never been a factor, until this year and that's part of the reason that I can not stand them.

The Detoilet fans that were at Comiskey this year for the games against the Sox were the most rude, disgusting, vile, and lacked the most class out of any fans that I saw at the park this past year.

Now keep in mind, I have season tickets, out of the 81 home games, I only missed 4 all year. I saw the Sox play every opponent, and thus, the fans of every opponent.

Detoilet fans were worse then flubs fans, if you can believe that.:o:

Now, I'm not saying that all Tigers fans are like that, but the ones I saw at the park were just complete trash. That REALLY made me hate that team.

http://www.nydailynews.com/images/editors/rope1006.jpg (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/index.html)

When asked if he liked what he saw from his big-ticket third baseman, Steinbrenner barked, "I didn't like him that well."
Steinbrenner then was asked whether he was at all worried that Rodriguez, now just 1-for-8 in the series, was falling into another postseason abyss. (A-Rod, you may remember, hit .133 against the Angels in last season's division series). But here Steinbrenner stood by his man - well, kind of. "No, he'll pull out of it," he said, before adding, "I hope."

Myrtle72

You know, I've never been a huge fan of the Yankees, nor A-Rod. But look at it from his perspective. I mean, if you had all sorts of pressure on you to do well the way he has, wouldn't that make it harder for you?

Everyone is so focused on A-Rod because of whatever happened in the past... no one has noticed that Mauer, the batting average champion, is now batting .143 in the post season.
