Did I see this correctly? As I was flipping around channels during a commercial break from the Bears game... I saw on BBTN Jeff Brantley names his NL Cy Young as AARON HARANG!

Aaron Harang had a good year, but nowhere near a Cy Young year. He was 16-11 with a 3.76 ERA. Let's see other choices that would've made more sense:

Chris Carpenter 15-8 3.09 ERA
Roy Oswalt 15-8 2.98 ERA
Carlos Zambrano 16-7 3.41 ERA
Brandon Webb 16-7 3.10 ERA
Billy Wagner 40 SV 2.24 ERA
and my pick... Trevor Hoffman 46 SV 2.14 ERA

It could be argued that Harang wasn't even the best pitcher on his staff. That might be Bronson Arroyo who was 14-11 3.29 ERA, with a lower WHIP. Brantley, yet again is wrong.

NL is tough this year.. I'd probably go Oswalt or Trevor.

You have to remember what Brantley said in 2005 around the all star break
"There is no way the White Sox are going to make the playoffs." So I really wouldn't pay much attention to him.

Oh, I know Brantley is a moron, I just like exposing his outright fallacies each time. I just can't believe the "world wide leader of sports" employs a guy like this, who doesn't know what he's talking about.

What do you expect? He's going to be working for the Reds next season.

Exactly. Yes, Harang led the NL in strikeouts, but mark my words, nobody will ever win the Cy Young with a 16-11 record.

Maybe if you had a 2.50 ERA, you could make a good case, but Harang's ERA wasn't too far away from 4. And I believe his WHIP was around 1.27, nothing to write home about.

Oswalt should get it.

I'd go with Carpenter. The Cards are in the playoffs.

Both closers are deserving of something, but I think the Cy Young should almost always go to a starter.

I guess you can say Brantley has a real 'Harang Up' over this pitcher!!!
