According to the Seattle Times

There had been speculation that Ichiro, whose agent will meet with Mariners ownership in the offseason, would ask out of his Seattle contract early because of dissatisfaction over the team's progress. His decision to give the go-ahead to a position shift should quell some of those rumors by indicating he plans on being back in 2007."

I would be so dam happy if the Sox sign him it would be a dream come true...

No, they control his rights through 2007. Of course, he could threaten not to come back and force a trade, but they can't just go out and sign him.

By the way, is Ichrio a new brand of Cheerio's in Japan?

If he doesn't re-up this off season (very unlikely according to stories) then the Mariners run the risk of him walking after next year and getting nothing back for him.

You can almost guarantee they'll move him in July at the latest, in that scenario.

And that might be the best time for KW to go after him...however, there's the risk of the C-Lee deal or Soriano. Giving up a ton of talent, falling short and then having nothing in return for the deal (like the Randy Johnson to Astros move).
