View Full Version : Who are you rooting for now in the playoffs?

I like baseball so much that I still have to watch the postseason even if the Sox aren't in it?

My question is..what team are you rooting for the most? I'd really like to see the Mets since they are similar to the Sox in the way they are treated as 2nd class in their own city..

Also - I am really pulling for the Phillies because of Rowand and they haven't been in it for so long..plus..I've always liked the Phils..

The Mets in the NL and for the AL, I'll be rooting for whatever team is playing the Twins.

Hokiesox
09-25-2006, 01:19 PM
I'll root for anyone playing the Twins. After that, I'll root for Ivan Rodriguez to hit .053 or lower, and vow not to be upset should the Tigers win. Unless, of course, these 2 teams play in the ALCS, then it's Tigers all the way.

NL: who cares?

OK, I'll reply to this one as well. If the Sox are not in the playoffs, here's whom I'll be rooting for:

NL: No one
AL: No one

This is the only possible correct answer!
I just hate relying on KC.

It amazes me that about 99% of the board has TOTALLY given up.
I maintain the <1 % delusional idea that we're not done.

I think I'd like the Mets to take it all.....and I think I'd like to see them beat the Yankees in the World Series.

I'll watch it because I like baseball but I won't be "rooting" for anyone.

If we don't pull off a miracle comeback, I'll be cheering for Yankees-Mets and the Yankees in the WS

I live in NY and the 2000 one was fun, but I realize it sucks for the rest of the nation...

AL: Tigers - Verlander went to the college I currently go to (Old Dominion University); I kinda wanna root for him.
NL: Mets - I just like the Mets, they're the underdogs.

But, the Sox aren't out yet, so... until they're out, I'm not rooting for anyone else!

GO SOX! (And Royals!)

Oh, and if the Twins play in the WS, I don't care who the NL team is, I want the Twins to lose.

I'm with you on the NL side. One of my best friends has a very good friend who plays for the Pads (I know, that's lame), so I'm cheering for the Friars.

If the Sox are only playing golf in October, then here's how I'll be rooting:

AL: NOT the Twins. NOT the Yankee$. NOT Oakland (love FT, but HATE OAK).
I guess it must therefore be the DT's.
My ideal (Soxless) playoff scenario would be for DET to mash NYY and OAK to mash the Twins in the two ALDS series, with DET sweeping OAK in the ALCS (despite stellar performances from FT).
Presumably though, it'll be NYY vs MIN & DET vs OAK in the ALDS.

NL: The Mets - purely in the hope that they win it all and get to rub Yankee$ fans' faces in it.

But I'm not bitter....

I live in the city as well and the press would have you believe a Subway Series is a foregone conclusion. That being said, I think that only one of them is going to make it, and that will be the Mets. Shea is always a madhouse when the Mets are in October e.g. Robin's grand slam single in 1999, and I think that home-field advantage will be a difference.

Yeah, it is a little annoying how people are just assuming it will happen, I agree with you there.
Interesting, b/c I feel like the Yankees have a better shot at making the WS than the Mets, but I guess I'm biased.
It will be interesting.

We should watch a game and drown our Sox sorrows if it happens. :gulp:

Definitely. PM me. I've always admired the mets, cause they remind me of the sox in a way. The 86 series was the first baseball that i remember seeing on tv. Both teams had countless years with talented rosters killed by poor managers, front office moves, injuries, etc. A white sox-mets WS would be a dream. Next year if not this year....

White_Sock

Barring the thought of fobbs, how can you not like the Oakland A's (unless they're playing the White Sox). They are young, scrappy, and loaded with pitching. Additionally, the best hitter in White Sox history hits in their four-hole. I want Frank to get a ring having played in the series.

Oakland over the Mets in 7

If I have to cheer for someone other than the Sox I guess the Yankees. Is there that much of a difference between 26 and 27 championships? Can their fans be anymore arrogant than they already are? Can the media love them anymore than they already do? In reality though I wouldn't cheer for anyone I would watch for the baseball.

I'll definitely be rooting for the A's. First, they're like the Sox of the Bay Area - 2nd fiddle to the Giants. While this is also true of the Mets, the Mets are NL and I'm an AL guy. Plus, I find it hard to root for any team from NYC. Plus, the A's have Big Frank and a group of scrappy, hard working, lunch pail kind of guys -- no superstars, just hard nose ball players. I can't root for the Twins or Tigers because either of those teams winning would be bad for the Sox - the more they win the better chance they'll get more $ to spend on payroll next season and that would be bad for the Sox. Can't root for the Yankees because they're the Yankees. If I had to pick a NL team to root for, it would be the Phillies. Those fans are long suffering, Rowand's on that team and I really like Howard, Utley, Moyer and others on that club.

buehrle4cy05
09-25-2006, 05:32 PM
The Phillies. It has nothing to do with Rowand. I'm a big fan of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, and these guys have led this team back after trading away their franchise player for the previous decade. That takes some guts, and Howard & Utley deserve a lot of the credit.

From the AL, the A's. Just because I can't root for the Tigers, Twins, or Yankees in my right mind.
