The 2006 Chicago White Sox currently have 85 wins with 10 games left to play. How many wins will they have at the end of the regular season?

Nice effort.

I know it won't matter but, I want them to win as many games as possible and at least give a good effort for the final 10 games.

10 game winning streak? Highly unlikely. I'll settle for 5-5 in these final games. That would give them an even 90 wins for the season. Still very disappointing, but I always thought of 90 as the cutoff between pennant contenders and also-rans (unless you play in the NL, where 85-89 wins gets you into the playoffs:angry: - just ask the '03 Cubs).

It's bad enough we're done. At least win 90 and be respectable.

I agree. If they get to 90 wins, at least that's a small consolation prize. Few teams win 90 games in a 162 game season.

4-6 the rest of the way, for 89 wins.

Gloating isn't an attractive trait, particularly when it seems that you are happy that you are right about the Sox not winning. I wish the Pollyannas had been right, and am certainly not going to call them out for being wrong.

89-73. Two vs Seattle, one vs Cleveland, one vs Minnesota.

whats intersteing is I have friends i work with from Detroit and they are all worried the sox just will go through the motions in Minnesota and basically hand them the division..

I told them you still need to play next week, worry about KC and then see where its all at next weekend.

Go through the motions? That's just the Sox taking it "one game at a time".

I'm unable to decipher just what you mean when you say "where have all the Pollyannas gone" in a sarcastic manner. You could be being sarcastic because you're not suprised they're not around since they were so wrong (the way I took it.) In fact, try as I may, I can't come up with any explanation for sarcastically saying that without it being calling them out for being wrong. What's the joke?

You're about to see the heart of this version of the Sox team, which I figure is pretty slight. 90 wins. Book it.

Kinda makes sense. I'm done with predictions for a while; seeing I'm zero for 2006. I'd rather say screw it to being right and wrong, and happily eat more churros as I enjoy the ride.

They will win 89 and finish 5 games out. To think all they had to do was win a few games or play .500 in September. Its ashame.

The joke is that 90% of the goddamn people on this site are damn-near immediate on finger pointing/name calling. I'm mocking the 90% of people who call someone who's pissed off at a ****ty team a dark cloud and someone who's optimistic a polyanna. THAT'S THE JOKE

And I"m sure I"ll be flamed in some sort of way for calling it a "****ty team" even though what I meant was that they're playing like trash.

THAT'S THE JOKEOkay, I'll take the blame on myself for being too obtuse to get it. I still don't. In the context, with the teal, I still read it as ridiculing the Pollyannas, but like I said, apparently I'm too thick-headed to handle the subtlety.

hey man, after that Boston series in July, I saw 'dark clouds' on the horizon for this team, so I wasnt so mad or surprised with all the losing lately. But man, I was just as furious as you were after Saturdays game in Oakland

Could a comparison be drawn between this team and the '91 and '92 Sox?

The '91 and '06 teams both came on the heels of successful seasons. The Sox won 94 in 1990 and were supposed to be better in '91 with Thomas, Ventura, and McDowell bursting on the scene. After Ventura's game winning grand slam on July 31 and Wilson Alvarez's no hitter a couple of weeks later, it was starting to look like their year. In the end they finished with 87 wins.

I remember '92 was hyped with the Sox supposedly having a "dream" all-star infield of Thomas, Sax, Guillen, and Ventura. But then Ozzie got injured in May and was out for the season and Sax turned out to be a total dud.
