We have 11 games left, you say?

Well, suppose we win tonight and sweep in Minnesota. I feel like that should be in teal, but bear with me.

We sweep Seattle and take three from Cleveland. That's 10-1 to close out the season. In games not counting us, the Twins go 6-3 and the Tiger 5-5. All three teams tie at 95-67. We win our playoff game (not sure against who) and sneak into the playoffs.

Stranger things have happened. I like the way our pitching lines up against Seattle, maybe Cleveland will be folding up by then, and ... well, let's now worry about at Minnesota right now.

Anything can happen, that's for sure. We might not even need to go 11-1, we may only need to go something like 9-4 if Detoilet and Minn tank the final 2 weeks. We never know how things are going to turn out until they do. We can just wait back and see.

Personally, I like to think that the Sox are not going to make the playoffs, so that if they do, it will be a pleasant surprise!

Also, your sig showing the 2007 rotation makes me slightly ill.

So what you're saying is, we need to run the table to get into the playoffs.

Twins are playing good baseball and are likely NOT going to tank. The Tigers are clearly the only possibility, although remote.

11-1? Why stop there? As long as we're being optimists, let's say add eleven straight in the playoffs to finish the season on a 22-1 run.

Ok, this thread was started by someone who wants Cotts in the rotation.
Secondly, "if" is the biggest word in the English language. The Twins are not tanking-they are playing pansies until we roll into town. The Tigers have it easy after today, too.

The Tribe has played us tough this year. Why should next week be any different?

What I am hoping for is to get to AT LEAST to 2 or even games below minn by the time we go to minn. Then that would mean weve played well. Make this terrible ending a lil more interesting. Make the series at minn fun to watch.

Hey, I think its possible that the Tigers will crap out on us for the remainder of the season.

Anything's possible!

Right now, we're 4.5 behind Minn. so if we could just gain 1.5 games on them before we play them, that final series will at least be interesting. It would still be a long shot, however, because if we go in to that series 3 back, we would have to beat Minn. four times in a row, with the first three coming in the Metrodome, but you never know, maybe we'll get some help before then and we won't need a one game playoff if we can sweep them.

Just let us get to minny 3 games or less back. That means picking up 1.5 games in the next 8 for us 9 for the twins. The twins have to lose at least 3 games of those 9. maybe 4. If they go 5-4 and the sox go 6-2 we have our 1.5 - then we need to just sweep the twins and play them on monday in chicago for the wildcard spot. No sweat.

That sig is a little old -- before Freddy started caring again. I still won't mind him going away in a trade, and would gladly part with McCarthy for a certain Devil Ray. So why not try Cotts in the 5th hole for a little while? If he doesn't work, then we can officially pull the plug on him and go to Haeger.

For some reason, today I was hit by a surge of optimism. With 3 games left with the Twins, anything can happen.

My head's telling me this season is over, but my heart is refusing to listen to it.

I completely agree. I can't give up yet, not til the numbers tell me I have to.

But really, can we actually sweep the Twins, in the metrodome, with Santana against us?

I just don't think its realistic. I do; however, think it's possible that Detroit will flake out and thus, the Twins and the Sox will surpass them. While that is unlikely also, I believe its more likely than us sweeping the Twins with Santana on their side.

The 1964 Phillies led the Cards by 6 1/2 games with 12 games to play. The Phillies lost 10 straight and finished 1 game back to the Cards. If they can do it so can we. We have 11 to go and only 5 games back!

For some reason I'm less enthusiastic about our chances after this thread.

Is it because we not only have to be essentially perfect, but our foes have to simultaneously be mediocre?

It's too bad we have to count on at least one team tanking, but it happens. I'll be pulling for the Sox until the end. And afterward.

Technically we only have to gain 1 1/2 games on the Twins to stay in it until the final weekend. We may gain one or more during the Seattle series. Stranger things have happened. Keep the faith, kiddies.

I really, really hate to say this but although I think the Twins and/or Tigers are capable of losing a bunch in a row, I'm not so sure that the Sox--while certainly capable--will win a bunch in a row. It's been some time since they have.

But they are still in it, and anything can happen. Let's get the series from those damn Kittens tonight and go from there. Baby steps.

Works for me...

Actually, they only have to be partially mediocre. I mean if the Sox go 10-1 with 4 of the wins coming against the kittens and twinkies, then the Tinkies need to win 6 of the remaining 8 games to hold off the Sox. 5 would only earn them a tie 4 would knock them out of the playoffs altogether unless the kittens really stink up the joint for the last 1.5 weeks.

Hard to do? Definitely. Impossible? No ****ing way...

Here's to hoping the Royals kick ass the final 2 weeks!

:gulp:

One way to look at it is that we are only 1.5 games behind the Twins, not 4.5. Hear me out on this. One of the things that gives me a glimmer of hope is that we have 3 games remaining against the Twins. We need to look at the games between now and then as a race to get to this "playoff with the Twins" for the final 3 games. All we need to do is go into Minnesota no more than 3 games behind the Twins. If we do that, our destiny is completely in our hands at the Metrodome.

We don't have to rely on some other team like the Royals beating the Twins, we just have to beat them ourselves. Instead of us needing to rely on some other team we can take matters into our own hands. At the end of the day that's all you can ask for. We can walk out of Minnesota ahead of the Twins (and headed to the playoffs) or tied, and then we come back to the Cell for a one game playoff.

I look at it that way too and tried to explain it to someone on SUnday when they were giving me all the statisitical analysis. If the Sox can go into that last weekend only 3 back from Minnesota, they have a shot. It's a longshot, but it is a shot.

Hell, I still think in the end it is going to between the Sox and Tigers for the WC.
