View Full Version : High Point of the Season??

I am not speaking mathematically such as # of games over .500.

I am wondering when during the season you were on cloud 9 about this year's team.

For me it was a game I was at. I went to the First game against the Cardinals, and I remember them jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead.

The friend I took with me kept saying "we'll be fine, were hitting him hard, we'll score runs"

10 minutes later we scored 11 runs, in ONE INNING. My brother even joked how we DID NOT put a crooked number up that inning.

We won the game I think something like 20 - 4. That night driving home I thought the playoffs were a no doubter, I just didn't know when we would clinch the division.

I haven't felt that good since that night, personally.

For me the high note was when we beat Boston in the final game of the 1st half in the 213th inning or whatever it was. It kept us from getting swept and, at the time, I thought that it was the *spark* we needed going into the 2nd half.

I was feeling pretty good after that sweep of Detroit in August but I'll be feeling even better after a 2006 WS winner.

AJ running over Barrett and the Sox smoking the Cubs. IIRC we blew the next game when Mackowiak misplayed a couple of balls in the 8th inning [Game 3] precluding a sweep. This would become a habit throughout the year - winning the first two games and losing the 3d.

Probably the Cardinals series, sweeping them with a 20-6 win (which was 20-2 going into the 9th) and then finishing it off with a 1-0 win. It doesn't get more impressive than that series.

I'd also put the AJ homer against the Cubs in second...but that wasn't the height of the team's overall clicking. And we did drop the third game.

I loved that walk-off bunt by Ozuna! From then on I thought we were going to have alot of exciting walk-off games and alot of close games throughout the season and of course great at bats from our bench.

Paul Konerkos 3 run homer in the top of the ninth against the twinkies to take a 1 run lead in the last game of the season. Then Jenks coming in to strike out the side for a white sox winner and wild card birth!!!!!

I thought Gload's granny was going to get the Sox on one of those big runs. Had the Sox swept that series, I was going to have one of those fancy sigs made up with Gload's face put in it. For real.

I know it was early in the year but Iguchi's Superman throw and Ozuna's game tying homer in the bottom of the 9th against Seattle.:bandance:

AJ's walkoff on Sept. 8. I never was at a game that ended in a walkoff.

AJ's walkoff on Sept. 8. I never was at a game that ended in a walkoff.

Eesh, I thought that moment was crap. The only reason that the game turned into a walkoff situation was becuase Jenks threw 7 pitches in the 9th that resulted in 4 doubles and three runs.

Gload's clutch grand slam at Camden against the Orioles was my favorite point in the season.

For one, I was actually at that game, which was great, because I can't go to many White Sox games. For two, the atomsphere was perfect, everything about it was great. The Orioles fans around me were joking around because while the bases were loaded, they didn't think Konerko's replacement, Gload, could pull it off. And he did. In fact, they all did. Big time. In the 9th inning to give the Sox the lead and eventually the win.

I love it when the Sox make great comebacks like that.

Also, the AJ/Barrett situations were pretty amusing. And AJ's walk-off on half-way to St. Patty's day was great.

There have been lots of great moments about this season.

A.J.'s homer to beat the Cubs in the 9th was my favorite. The walk-off he hit on Sept. 8th was good too because I was there.

When AJ hit the homer against the Cubs and I was slapping hands with the Sox fans around me and watching the idiots trash the field I thought this year was sprinkled with that magic that we had last year. No Sox fan leaving that park would have ever guessed that since that day we would go 32-39 from after that game until now. It would have been unfathomable. Leaving the park that day we were walking on air.

Amen! I was there for Opening Night, and tears were streaming down my face for the entire banner unveiling ceremony (the montage is what did it for me, especially with the choice of music they had it set to). I will NEVER forget it! How beautiful!

It's because of that stupid WSI Drinking team thread.

The complete and utter destruction of the Cardinals back in June. I was at a local establishment in STL for all three games watching it. The Garcia-Reyes game the locals finally started to give me grief until of course Big Jim's AB. Those were better days.

When I was at Big Franks first game back at the cell. Not only was it cool to be there and praise the big guy, but the way the won the game amazing. Mackowack pinched hit in the 8th inning, hit a hr to tie the game up. And then Pablos bunt.I saw what I saw in last yrs team, which was everyone contributing. I thought we were unstoppable.
Oh yeah, watching A.J. 's homer against the cubs sure ties with this too

I have to agree. There were so many memorable moments this season, eg. Ozuna, AJ, etc. but I'll never forget staying for that marathon game, and beating the Red Sox.

I'll say the Cardinals and Astros series in June. Despite losing the last game to Houston the fact the team(Iguchi) came back to tie the game, was unbelievable. I thought the team could do no wrong at that point in the season.

By far, we peaked this year during that Cardinal Series. We won by slaughter rule the 1st two nights and then Freddy ACEd them with a 1-0 win to finish the sweep.

When they unveiled the WS Championship banner at the beginning of the year.

That's my most memorable moment of the season thus far. And then I sat through a long rain delay before we beat the Indians 10-4.

Since then, the highest point would be the sweep of the Tigers in August. I thought we were on to something there, but we couldn't sustain it.

That was the first thing that came to mind for me. Also, a slam by Thome against the Orioles because it was my daughter's first Sox game. We had gotten Crede (she's 16 and Joe of course is her favorite player:rolleyes:) and AJ's autographs that day at the Taste and it was altogether a great day.:D:

High point of the season for me? The intro video at the park. Makes me tear up each and every time I see it, and I've seen it a bunch of times now.

Next year that intro video won't open the games, and I miss it already.

Aside from that, I loved the game where Barrett punched AJ and then the Sox punched the Flubs.

...We won the game I think something like 20 - 4...(2005 World CHAMPIONS!!!)

The way I remember the score and date of that game is it happened on June 20, 6-20, and the score was visitors 6, Sox 20.

For me the high point was the 19 inning marathon with Boston. It capped a great 1st half.

And that was that.

Those Mack plays never would've happened if Uribe didn't suck at SS and blow a DP. I'm not a fan of Uribe, can't you tell?

Surprisingly a lot of "high points" come to mind for me. The 20-6 win over the Cards. Gooch's 2 out grand slam in the bottom of the 9th (which was part of the series in which we hit 3 grand slams). AJ's HR in the 9th vs the Cubs. I think that the latest high point would be the sweep vs. Detroit that included Jose's 5 hit shutout. That really made me believe at the time.

High point of the season was AJ's grand slam last night. Even though everyone figured our chances were over, he gave us a glimmer of hope. It was kind of like that last tribute to 2005. Thanks for some great memories, guys!

AJ's home run against the Cubbies, showing us how both teams' seasons were up to that point.

The 20-6 line score is hanging on my bedroom wall.:D:

The 1-0 game where Thome homered on our only hit. Possibly the best game I've ever been to.

AJ on Halfway to St. Patrick's Day. We need more of these one-night uniforms so he can do that every time.

AJ's jack against the Cubs was pretty awesome, and since I was there I'm giving it the season nod. Especially with the whole Barrett thing leading up to it.

Then there's the Frank Thomas pity party where all he did was go yard twice - but that still ended up being a great game. Pablo was magic until his injury.

I get so depressed thinking about the optimism I had for this team - one game that stands out where I thought for sure that (barring major injuries) this team is playoff bound is the game in late April where Thome went deep off Johan to put the Sox up for good for that game.
