Due to an unknown illness that has infected his daughter. He says she has gone blind in 1 eye and that they need a miracle at this point. I would hope that any SOX fan would pray for the little girl and put everything else aside. Best of luck to D. Lee and his daughter, my prayers are with you.

It's stories like this that make you realize how unimportant worrying about the sox playoff chances really is.

Wow. It's been such a tough year for Lee, you can only help but feel sorry for him. Who cares that he plays for the Cubs, this is tragic.

He was the best hitter in Chicago last year, and he most likely would have been this year had he not had all those injuries. What an awful year it has been for him. I feel terrible for him, but it sounds like he is doing all he can at this point for his daughter. He is easily the classiest guy on the Cubs and he is extremely fun to watch.

Best wishes D-Lee!

Here's to hoping you and your family get through this.

I was just going to say the same thing. Wow. These stories put things in perspective. All the best to D Lee and his family.

3 years old. That's just not fair.

Thoughts and prayers are certainly with them.

This would be awful news for anyone of course, but Derrek Lee is a class act all the way. I'm sorry to hear this. Hopefully it is not as serious as it sounds.

D.Lee has always been one of my favoirte baseball players. Its sad seeing him go through all of these horrible things this year. Hopefully his daughter can pull through it. At this point baseball does not matter to him and I can see why. Prayers to you and your family Derreck.

Yes, D Lee needs the prayers.

My daughter was in ICU at Childrens during the Sox parade last October. I know how he feels.

Good luck Derek.

Hope she gets better. Good thing DLee has a lot of money, he can get the best medical care possible for her.

True - but sad proof that money can't buy happiness.

Losing a 3 year old child would be a tragedy. Here's hoping for a full recovery.

I caught a glimpse of Derek Lee at Medinah this year at the PGA Championship. He was with his wife and carrying his daughter on his shoulders near the 18th hole. This disease must have struck her suddenly, because she seemed very healthy at the time.

Anyway, good luck, D. Lee. You and your family will be in our prayers.

This is horrible. It's so easy to forget that most of these people have wives and children, because we see them on television, in uniform every day. It kills me to think that Derrek has spent the majority of his daughter's life on the road, and that he may never see her healthy again. If anything we should all take this as a reminder that nothing is promised. So if you have sons or daughters or nieces or nephews, make sure that you give them an extra hug and kiss tonight.

I was listening to some overnight show on The Score as I was going to bed last night and some dumb ass Cubbie fan called in and said the Cubs made up the whole story about DLee's daughter to cover up the fact that they brought him back too soon and he got hurt again. What a ****ing piece of ****.

This really is sad. Some things even money can't fix, so hopefully things work out for the best. :(:

I've been there. My son spent his first Christmas in the ICU.

It is tough, devastating really, when one's children are taken critically ill. What amazes, though, is that, in times of dire need, there are are a multitude of people who are there to care, to pray, to give hope, to treat, and to heal.

Mr. Lee's daughter will be in our prayers tonight.
