View Full Version : Twins vs Red Sox next week

Fenway

White Sox fans have good reason to fear the Twins coming into Boston next week.

Boston has QUIT there is no doubt about it. This team has stopped caring about winning.

Manny isn't playing which of course hurts Ortiz, Schilling looks like he is shutting down for the season but what concerns me is that rest of the club is mailing it in.

It could be very ugly this weekend in NY when Boston goes there for 4 and then they play the Twins.

Be worried, be very worried

Yeah, I am worried. I also am worried that Cleveland and KC are thinking about their golf swings for two weeks.

i dont care what anyone says about KC. They will roll over and die during the Tigers and Twins series. The other AL Central teams do not want the Sox going to the playoffs in my opinion...

Bell has KC playing as well as they can...they looked good against Boston, but then so would "The Little Sisters of the Poor"

Boston's newfound apathy (if you want to call it that) is understandable to a certain degree. This has been a very disappointing season for them with a lot of devastating injuries.

I don't think KC is going to quit, though. They are playing as well as anyone right now. The only thing they have had to play for most of this season has been pride and a future job. I think they will continue to give it all they have for the remainder of the season and maybe take some satisfaction out of giving teams in the hunt for the playoffs fits.

I've always felt that without Manny's protection, Ortiz would be an average player.
Manny> Ortiz
Manny is/was/will probably always be the Red Sox mvp.

Cant imagine a buddy bell team rolling over for anyone. They might not have the talent but the games I have watched they always play hard

I disagree Mike, Cleveland looked like they were playing last week when they were here. The Royals are playing for next year, they're both dangerous teams. I would rather play a Boston team that has given up than the Royals or Indians.

Also **** Manny, he totally screwed me in my fantasy playoffs.

Yep, Boston's season ended with the Boston Massacre a couple weeks ago.

They don't seem to care that the Blue Jays are about to pass them ( Jays only 1.5 back )

Manny doesn't care

BALTIMORE -- Even though the Red Sox have fallen out of playoff contention and he isn't playing, Manny Ramirez is having a blast. He's laughing in the clubhouse before the game. He's clowning around at the batting cage as the team stretches.

The fun didn't stop when the game started Wednesday night.

I am surprised the fans are taking it lying down. They pay good money, fill the house, and are used to quality baseball.

If they are dogging it they should get booed out of town. Show some pride, like the Royals and Indians.

I always heard Boston and NY and Philly were the toughest sports media towns and fanbases. Or is fenway just another Wrigley?

Integrity of baseball, red sox and Terry Francona- be professionals, and I am looking at you, Manny.

Good. Let the Jays pass them. I'm sick of the AL East standings being Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles, Devil Rays year after year.

I doubt it

Looks like he done for the year

RED SOX 6, ORIOLES 5 (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox)

done for the season (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/09/15/ramrez_could_be_done_for_the_season)?

Terry Francona said yesterday that "there's a chance" Manny Ramírez will not play the rest of the season

Based on the skyrocketing ticket prices that fenway has posted in other threads, it's no surprise that the yuppie crowd has moved in and become the face of the Boston fanbase. Shallow, ignorant, there to be seen and with money to burn, regardless of what happens on the field. Longtime fans have been supplanted by the poser crowd. I was at Fenway Park in 1999 and even then it was a much different place than it appears to have become today.

I guess everybody here is a Red Sox fan the next 3 days

Here is the overlook

at Fenway Park Records: Boston is 81-69 (second in the American League East, 9 1/2 games behind); Minnesota is 88-61 (second in AL Central, 1 game behind).
Tonight (7:05, NESN, WEEI 850): RHP Tim Wakefield (7-9, 4.19) vs. RHP Matt Garza (1-5, 5.50).
Tomorrow (7:05 p.m., NESN, WEEI): RHP Curt Schilling (14-7, 4.13) vs. RHP Boof Bonser (5-5, 4.52).
Thursday (7:05 p.m., NESN, WEEI): RHP Josh Beckett (15-10, 5.02) vs. LHP Johan Santana (18-5, 2.77).
Head to head: Minnesota won all three meetings this season, June 13-15 in Minneapolis.
Miscellany: Santana leads the majors in wins and strikeouts (237) . . . Justin Morneau has 33 home runs. No Twins player had hit 30 homers in a season since 1987, when Kent Hrbek (34), Tom Brunansky (32) and Gary Gaetti (31) did it . . . In Wakefield's June 15 start against the Twins he pitched 6 innings, allowing 4 runs and 8 hits in taking the loss. http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/File-Based_Image_Resource/dingbat_story_end_icon.gif

Boston is 7 1/2 behind the Twins with 12 to play so in theory they will go all out.

Varitek sucks. If gamecast is accurate, it looks like he had a 2-0 pitch right down the middle with 2 on and 2 outs in bottom of the 8th and popped out to the third baseman. Talk about overrated.
