Pitching matchups:

Bonser vs Cliff Lee- edge Indians
Santana vs Fausto- huge edge twins
Silva vs Sabbathia- big edge indians
Garza/gurrier vs Byrd- even

I am glad that the indians weakest starter is out there against Cysantana.

We need the Indians to play like they do against the sox in this series.

I note that the twins were shutout for the 13th time yesterday- tying their own club record. We need them to shatter that club record.

C'mon Indians, play hard.

Well, the Twins are getting the same 4 starters the Sox got from the Indians. Hopefully they at least fair as bad as the Sox did (2/4).

They'll prolly split the series. It would be nice of the Jndians to win three or more, but don't count on it. At least we won't have to hear "Pronk this" or "Pronk that" anymore. That made me sick this season.

The Twins are playing on the road, where their record isn't anywhere near as good as their home record. Hopefully, that'll tip things more to the Indians advantage. (who would have thought we'd be saying that in September:o: )

This is an important point. If this series was in the Metrodome, I could easily see the Twins winning three of four. Since it is on the road, I can easily see the Indians winning three of four. A lot will depend on how well Bonser and Garza pitch on the road.

our fate is pretty much in our hands, we have are almost in a must win state every series now, if we can take 2 of 3 from oakland its get good, but bobby blowing that game in anaheim makes me think we have to sweep oakland.

Lets go out and take care of business tommrow. 17 games left. As long as 2 come against the tigers and 2 against the twins to finish up, we need 12 of these 17. That puts us at 96, but making up a game a side on both the twins and tigers.

Pre-Allstar Break Twins Road record: 17-29
Post-Allstar Break Twins Road record: 17-6

I wouldn't count on the Jndians. The two series that matter will be: CWS vs DET, and CWS vs MIN.

You never know with rookie pitchers what you're going to get from game to game. That might apply with Garza and his chances for a boom or bust game, but it's also true with Fausto. He is supposed to have a lot of talent. It isn't just against the White Sox that such pitchers sometimes become unhittable for six or seven innings. The Santana/Fausto game is certainly a longshot for the Indians, but if the Indians play with pride, the Twins could have a tough weekend.

The Sox had trouble with Sabathia and Lee, but I don't know if the Twins have as much trouble with southpaws.

yes, the twins also struggle against leftys.

Tonite is a must lose deal with Lee on the mound.

Verlander is sucking fumes at this point- he did not look good last nite. Rogers and bonderman are the keys. We will face both. They will push bonderman up to face us on wednesday.

The twins may have guys go on three days rest also as we enter the stretch run.
We have five starters that are going decent but that may be trumped by using Santana and Rogers an extra turn.

Agreed. 1 down with 16 left, or 2 down with 16 left? It's a big swing game, plus if the Indians win tonight, they'll only have to win one more for the split. If they lose tongiht, they probably get beat by Santana, and then it's just frustration all weekend.

I wonder if the Twins' bullpen is responsible for a lot of that. If in fact, the bullpen has been pitching more, even successfully, it could cost them in key situations. One of the keys to an effective bullpen is judicious use.

For one thing, they got rid of Lohse and stopped using Baker every fifth game. Bonser has been very good after a couple of bad games when he was first called up. Garza hasn't been great, but he has been better than either Lohse or Baker were. Radke started pitching better after a rough early season, until he went on the DL. Also, Silva has pitched much better the second half of the season than he did the first.

The Twins starting rotation, other than Santana, was terrible for the first two months of the season.

The Twins aren't playing well tonight by any means. They have left the bases loaded twice. In all but one inning they left at least one runner in scoring position. One run scored on a bases-loaded walk, and another on an error. After the error they had the bases loaded with one out and didn't score again. The sacrifice fly after the wild pitch was clutch, though.

Obviously, the Indians are playing worse.

Yeah. They were too ashamed to admit that they were wrong about the sox. If you are in denial deep, you will deny some more.

Thats an understatement. Almost nobody had the sox finishing better than 3rd in their division, and the general consensus was the Twins and Cubs in the World Series.......They were sooooooo close!!

You have to give the Twins credit. They're in it to win it. If we want to play in the postseason, we'd better have the same drive and determination.

The Sox are going to have to sweep in Oakland, and they aren't going to score many runs against that pitching staff.

Even then, it might be easier to catch the Tigers.

I think this is exactly right. The Twins greatest asset seems to be that they fight hard no matter what. For a front-runner, the Tigers sure seem like a beaten and demoralized team.

During that last series the game we really let get away (and badly) was the first one where Mark laid an egg. I know the Sabathia game was winnable, but that would have been the one I predicted we had the greatest chance of losing.

Yep, if the Sox offense (you know, the one with FOUR .300/30HR/100RBI hitters plus AJ and Iguchi hitting .280 and BA hitting about .290 in the 2nd half) could have possibly managed to muster more than 2 runs in 2 games against bad pitching, then we'd only be one game behind Detroit right now.

It's not the Twins luck or Indians crappiness that's threatening to keep us out of the playoffs. We blew our chances against bad teams.

I'm not sure how well the Twins played. They left 16 men on base. Their hitters left 10 men in scoring position. Nine Indians pitchers put a lot of guys on base. The winning Twins pitcher actually blew the save opportunity when it looked like the Indians were dead.

The Indians didn't show up tonight. If they did, they went home early.

The bottom line is that the twins got to Lee and into that bullpen early while last week the sox let him go like 5 no-hit innings or something. Those little short stroke banjo hitters win again.

We have to hope the twins lose at least one in cleveland and that the O's somehow take a game or two against the tigers.

We are reduced right now to needing help or being perfect. If we win all 16 we will be guaranteed the wildcard.

The twins are hot winning 7 of 8 games- Bonsor is pitching lites out, they are scoring big against mediocre pitching and Silva had a good outing last time out. That is about all they need with Santana winning every 5th game. I am sorry but the twins are not a good playoff team- I just do not see them beating the yanks except when santana pitches. Tigers are not a fearsome group right now either. I still think the sox are the team to challenge the yanks. But we have to win tomorrow nite and sat nite and sunday and.....

That's why it was so important for the Sox to take care of their own business when they had the chance. All those losses to bad teams, NINE games where the Sox had a lead going into the 7th inning or later against a team with a losing seasonal record and then they lose it.

Those losses are incalculable. Just win five of those games against bad teams where you blew it late and how different do the standings look?

I don't think any pro worth his salt deliberately tanks late in the season if they are out of it but subconsciously you do relax, things aren't the same when you have no chance to advance in the post season.

Again the Sox have no one to blame but themselves for putting themselves in this position...having to 'hope' someone else loses.

I would imagine that, on paper, this may be the most lopsided pitching matchup of the year. This is the kind of game the Sox can usually bank on as an "L" when they have the apparent advantage. Johan has given up four already, and the Twins will probably win, but that is why they play the game.

The Twins will probably tie by the time I post this.

I don't know, did you see Hayden Penn's ERA coming into tonight?

He actually improved it again! At least I think so...

Bonderman's got his first win since the meltdown in Minnesota.

And Andy Marte should be on the White Sox the way he was thrown out easily on a double that should have given the Indians a 5-2 advantage.
Santana is uncharacteristically shaky. He just doesn't have as much life on his fastball tonight, but he's grinding it out.

And Jason Davis throws as easy at 99 from the RH side as Thornton from the LH side. Surprised they haven't looked at him as a closer. I know there have been some games we rocked him...and his fastball doesn't have a lot of movement, but they should at least consider it. Might as well experiment at this time of the year...

Have you watched the Indians' bullpen this year?

I'm assuming you are not watching the game...because it took Betancourt 15 minutes to walk Tyner and Castillo.

Of course, I'm sure you're aware of who comes after them in the line-up.

Watching the Indians with Martinez behind the plate is as helpless a feeling as watching runners go against Garcia and Contreras. It's not a fun feeling. And it's the way we used to play...against TOR or against Victor Martinez this season, that's the only time I have seen it recently.

The Indians' bullpen is impregnable, the Indians' bullpen can't be touched, you can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them. It's like the Berlin Wall...no, it's like the Great Wall of China mixed with Yao Ming, Ditka and a hurricane.

You can be optimistic all you want...I'm sure you believe the Orioles will come back, the Indians' bullpen is waterproof and that the Chiefs and Bears will meet in the Super Bowl.

caulfield12
09-15-2006, 08:41 PM
Of course, both base hits have come off 0-2 pitches this inning.

Reliever coming in for the Indians...first and third, two outs. Still 4-2.

The Twins aren't due at all with their 4/30 in RISP...and Harrelson jinxed the no hitter, according to Mariotti.

I'm sure you will blame me if the Indians manage to lose this game, just like Jay blamed WGN and Harrelson. As if optimism/positivity over the Internet or DirecTV/cable/satellite can lead the White Sox to a win....yelling encouragement or almost throwing your remote at the TV like Harrelson the game he missed that we almost blew the lead last weekend.

How would you like to be Pat Neshak and have to face Kevin Kouzmanoff... Hector Luna... and Joe Inglett... in a row?

Well, let's hope they win it in the bottom of nine because I don't think any of us want to see this go to extra innings.

I'm positive if the Indians score a run here their bullpen won't be able to give up the lead, lol.

Walk off homer for Inglett here I'm predicting.

I'm also positive the Indians are going nowhere again next season with this bullpen.

Don't be so sure.

Dude will probably forget to touch home or something.

Neshek is hittable by lefties who are patient. AJ and Mack have taken him deep.

Walk's as good as a hit. Pitcher's blowing up.

He could get the Iguchi/Dye brain cramp virus.

Wow, the Indians' hitters are really disciplined.

The Indians have the advantage here with their stellar pen. Bring on extras.

Marte needs an 8 foot bat to hit those pitches.

Marte looked a lot better hitting one of those doubles off of jenks that night.

Just because the Indians have "beaten" Santana twice now this season, the bullpen imploded and consequently the Twins went on to win in extra innings doesn't mean it will happen again.

Here's to hoping we win today and so Friday is a wash! See you all tommorow after today never happened!!!! HOPEFULLY!

I'm not worried.

No, but if the Toons can get through the top of the 10th, they've got a good chance to score a run in the bottom.

Edit: Three up three down for the Twins. Gutierrez is having a good day and Sizemore is what they call DUE! First two get on, I'm calling it.

Hopefully he gives them 2 innings like Loiaza has pitched so far...

Well, just ONE would be the best.

Did the Indians just get a double?

Please execute the bunt....swing away, just get it done...
