September 14, 1997 - Carlton Fisk has his uniform #72 retired in a ceremony before the Sox take on Cleveland. The game is also remembered for manager Terry Bevington going to the mound to change pitchers...expect for the fact that no one was warming up in the Sox bullpen when he called for the change!

What a dumbass. Who the hell thought that guy was capable of managing a
one-man business, let alone a baseball team?

His proudest moment had to be when he started a fight with an umpire in
Gibson's. He was an embarrassment.

Skot:

Matt wasn't with the club in 96 and 97 when Idiot-child was the manager.

Personally I think that's Ventura wearing a different number for some reason. Maybe his jersey got lost.

Baseball Almanac shows Ray Durham wore #5 in 1997. And unless my eyesight is gone, that ain't Ray.

I'm pretty sure thats Robin, i vaguely remember some incident with unis around the time of the boomer era.
also i think that may have been pre durham while Bevington was still the 3rd base coach ?

That picture is from his 3rd base coaching days. Judging by the "Rawlings" on the jersey sleeves (and the Comiskey Park Inaugural Year patch), that picture is from 1991.

And as manager Bevington always wore that jacket, even in sweltering heat, never the uni.

How can you tell? The Sox used that patch on the sleeve for a number of years and simply changed the wording from 'Inagural Year' to 'Chicago White Sox.'

Were you able to blow up the photo somehow?

There are a couple of differences on the patches. Take a look and compare.

Like I said, I know that Russell Athletic made jerseys beginning in 1992. I can tell that the jersey sleeve says "Rawlings" (or rather can recognize that it's not the Russell "R").

Yeah, I'm pretty much a dork.
