This thread (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=78671) got me to thinking: who do you want on the mound in a win or stay home situation?

I think garland has proved that he is our ace, much like jose last season.

I believe Vazquez is scheduled to start the last game of the season, so it would most likely fall into Contreras' lap, which I would have no problem with.

I know managers usually start experienced pitchers in these games, but I've really lost faith in Garcia.

I would pitch them all, until they got in trouble.

Start with JG, follow with JV, then MB/JC/FG (in that order), until we get to the 7th, then get into the bullpen.

I would go with JG. JV, and MB for a few innings each.

It's not really an issue. It'll either be Vazquez on his regular turn, or Jose Contreras. Based on experience, I'd go with Contreras.

I'd start Vazquez if he was the freshest. No teal needed.

The optimal choice would be a Jose that's on. If he pitches a few more times like last night and goes back to dominating, and it actually comes down to it, I'd want him. Right now, the best pitcher on this team is Garland, though, clearly. He's scheduled to pitch the last game of the year if I'm not mistaken. .

+1

I was vacillating between the two, but JG has carried the staff since the ASB. He should be given the ball by Ozzie, and the team as a reward for being our ace.

I'm gonna say Garland because of his recent consistency since the All-Star Break. I'd definitely feel the most comfortable with him on the mound. So long as he is getting his pitches on that inside corner, he's money.

Wouldn't have a problem with Contreras in his recent state either.

Garland this is a no brainer.

no i agree completely, id have Javy pitch if it was a one game playoff, with the BP ready to go at the first sign of trouble, Thornton(6-7) Macdougal(8) jenks(9) Javy is lights out 1-5 and as of late has been dominating and emerging as a #1 much to the chagrin of the fans Chris Young and the doubters of KW.

I know how awesome Garland's been and how on and off Buehrle's been, but for some reason I'd feel more comfortable trusting Mark. :dunno:

Garland this is a no brainer.

So, you want him pitching two days in a row?

Two choices folks: Vazquez or Contreras

Garland has easily been the most consistent in the second half. He'd be the logical choice.

Edit: Just saw the above choice about pitching two games in a row. In that case, I go Contreras. He has the potential to be lights out. You just gotta hope it's not one of those games when he gets shelled.

I picked winning the division. But I'll take a fresh Vazquez for about 6IP (hopefully 7). Then MacDougal, Thornton, and Jenks to finish it off.

The fact that we're debating the merits of at least three starters from the rotation to start one game to enter the playoffs, proves a good problem that just might be show the resurgence of the staff. BTW, Jose would be my choice, as good as Javy has been his last three or four starts (if only he could get run support). Jose seems to be back to his dominant form and he's been the rock before for this club.

I voted Jose.....I know Garland has been our ace, but I always feel the most confident with Jose on the mound. When he has his best stuff we cant lose.

Vazquez will give at least 5 solid innings. The second someone gets a hit off of him, you pull him and bring in Cotts.

Looking at the schedules in a playoff it appears we would probably get either Liriano against the Twins or Rogers against Detroit. Knowing the situation and the fact that Minny and Detroit have seen our pitches a few times already my idea might be crazy. Really i'm not even sure if the roster rules would allow it. However what I would do is show Jose or Javy warming in the pen. Warming in the locker room would be Haegar. Obviously you all think i'm crazy but here's why. You get their mindset ready for a power pitcher, a guy they have seen a few times already and have a general scouting report on, then you shock the holy hell out of them by firing a knuckle baller out there. 1 of 2 things will happen. Either Haegar will get shelled and his career will be shattered or he will dominate and shut down the opposition and a future superstar will be created as well as making the playoffs.

I voted Garland, but then I read about the two straight starts, so I say Jose. But it doesn't matter...we won't have to face Runelvys Hernandez, so we should be able to win.

Anyone. Where we stand right now, just making it to a one game playoff (at home) would be a good thing.

I am actually suprised there or no Garcia lovers left here. Maybe Olivo should come back to pitch.

But I would pick Garland.

In my ideal world - the question is, after all, who I would want to see on the mound in a one-game tie-breaker - I would want to see a Tigers pitcher taking on a Twins pitcher - facing-off in a one-game tie-breaker to see who wins the WC berth behind the 2006 ALC Champion Chicago White Sox.

Do I really need the teal?

Probably

I believe Vazquez is scheduled to start the last game of the season, so it would most likely fall into Contreras' lap, which I would have no problem with.

Of course, it isn't a matter of choice, is it? If there is a three way tie, the Sox would get an off day before their game, but otherwise, it would be a matter of who is due up in the rotation, and, thus, rested.

When you've only got one game, I'd like to have the best "stuff" pitcher out there. You never know how the offense is going to turn out with this team, so I'd go with whoever is most capable of allowing 0-1 runs, even if they risk going the complete opposite end of the spectrum. That's why I picked Vazquez...all or nothing.

He's probably more likely to give up 6 or 7 than Garland, but, at this time, I think has a better chance of allowing nothing. Especially now that Ozzie has caught on to the big inning pattern, with MacDougal, Thornton, and Jenks, if that 6th can be bridged by Vazquez or some combination of relief help, I'd take my chances with that.

In a one game playoff, I'd have to go with a "Game 7" thought process: with the exception of who may start Game 1 of the ALDS, "EVERYONE is available!"

well if it's an away day game, is there even reason to ask the question after yesterday? well, at least if the Sox bats post Freddie an early lead so he can lean back and toss strikes all day

If there were to be a 1-game playoff, do we get the expanded rosters available, or are we stuck with the 25 man roster? It counts towards our regular season record, but has the word playoff in its name. I would guess we get everyone, but does anybody know for sure?

Jon, duh!

He's been the most consistent starter we have since the All-Star Break.
In July he was 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA.
And in August, 5-1 with a 2.89 ERA once again.
