View Full Version : Longest Streak at .500?

I was watching Sunday Night Baseball tonight and they showed that Ryan Howard has 30 hits in his last 61 at bats for an average just under .500.
There are a lot of guys who are good with stats around here, and I was wondering if anyone knew the longest streak that a hitter has gone batting .500 or better. Just curious.

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to that, but I would like to add something to your request:
I am interested in finding some general facts about baseball history (things like the longest streak at .500, team with the longest winning streak ever, games that a team scored over 20 runs, etc) or records in baseball, I guess. I'm sure there are plenty of books out there on the topic, but for the sake of saving money, if anyone knows of any cool websites that include these types of info, I would be interested.
And... I hope you find your answer, sorry I couldn't be of any help.

Myrtle: Can't help with a cool website for that stuff, but the longest winning streak ever either belongs to the 1916 Giants or the 1935 Cubs. Either because the Giants had a tie in there, it took them 27 games to win 26 in a row. The 1935 Cubs won 21 in a row. The 2002 A's were close at 20 games, as were the 1906 "Hitless Wonders" White Sox with 19 (they also needed a tie in there, taking 20 games).

Minor league team 19 years ago won 29 in a row.
