I was at a watering hole in the South Loop Saturday night watching the game and eating some grub, as the Sox were putting the hurt on the Indians early, the game was turned off to cater to the Ohio state crowd in the bar (the 3) AND tennis was put on the other TV with the Sox on it!!!!!! The Cubs and Braves pivotal showdown was also on the TV. Sox were turned off, I grabbed the check and left.

The older Ohio St. crowd was talking at their table saying "Who wants to watch the Sox around here?" "Come on, put the Ohio state game on." "We need the ohio game on these two TVs."

This burned me up but SOX fans have the last laugh!!!

GO SOX!!

I have lived in the South Loop a long time. There are a lot of Sox fans around here and I have never had a problem at any establishment in this neighborhood if I asked the person in charge to put the Sox game on at least one screen. Haven't been to the SLC in some time but I will swing by soon and check it out. Maybe some idiot was catering to tourists (Hilton is two blocks away). I'm on it.

Yes, I've never had a problem with any bar there. Krolls, we went to Kasey's Thursday night, and even Hackney's puts the games on. With all the TVs in the SLC, you would think they could have the Sox on at least one...

That's the best response - Sox fans need to send a message to these places through their wallets. Any place that pulls that crap about Sox games won't get another cent from me. Those stuck up/heads in the sand Cub fans who run those places and like to pretend the Sox still don't exist will just have to pay for their arrogance through lost business.

The more Sox fans start speaking up about this, the more these clowns' biases will be put aside in favor of the almighty dollar.

Joe Kenny, the owner of Finley-Dunne's, is a diehard Sox fan and very generous in donating for school events. Joe's a helluva nice guy. Even though his bar is a mile from Wrigley, I've been in there with my Sox hat and other stuff on and felt quite welcome. Plus, that's also a great place to watch the NCAA Tournament.

On the same topic, how about this: during the Wrigley crosstown series, I got off work early and was watching the game at the bar in Venus on Jackson in Greektown, when they turned all the games onto the World Cup. They said they had already promised to put it on at 2pm or some crap, so we finished our drinks and left. Went to Small Bar on Division right after that and the entire place was packed --and this is at 230 or so--with nothing but World Cup action on the tubes.

Okay, I realize it's cool to feign interest in soccer if you're downtown or on the north side, but I don't see how early round World Cup is more important than Sox/cubs. This city sometimes...

I know that guys that own Small Bar pretty well. They're huge soccer fans. In fact, it's the only sport they care about. The bar is pretty well known for catering to soccer fans. Check out their website. The events section is nothing but soccer matches. They own Lava as well. If you hate soccer that much, you might want to stay away when they reopen.

We played for the first time in 2005 and played Joe's team first game at like 9am, hungover balls. We befriended them b/c they like to drink and they wanted us to beat their arch-rvials, Van Lines. When the tournament is over, we go to Finleys.

I concur with all comments regarding Joe Kenney and Finley Dunnes in this thread. It was my regular joint during the seven years I lived in Lakeview and I stop by anytime I am in the neighborhood. They always feature White Sox games. They also have the MLB ticket, feature IU basketball (among other teams - BC and Dayton) and they had the NHL Center Ice plan when I was a regular. Also a great place for college & NFL football as they feature several games in their two rooms.

It is a good choice for a future WSIDT Northside outing (we had a WSI outing there in March). The pith can move two blocks down to Tai's after Finley Dunne's closing time (2 am). Tai's is open until four on weekdays / five on weekends (on Ashland just north of Addison). People are sloppy drunk in Tai's at closing time.

My theory too. I'd love for more people to become Sox fans (and that is actually happening), but meanwhile I'm the customer who asks politely and is prepared to take her business elsewhere.

Anyway the waitress who served me at South Loop Club last night wasn't working Saturday night but was very surprised at the idea that the Sox game wasn't on at least a couple TVs Saturday night -- they have eight, one of them big screen. (Last night it was Sunday Night Football on the big screen plus two more TVs; Sunday Night Baseball on two; two different soccer games and one TV on ComcastSportsNet.)

So I'm going to hope what happened to Mike was a mistake. We'll see.

A Cub fan friend of mine got tickets for a Cub game last month; we kind of trade off between there and Comiskular. So we went to Wrigley, but the rains came before the game started and we ended up in the Stadium Club there. During the rain delay, I asked one of the waitresses if they could put the Sox game on the many TVs. And they did! There were even some people there cheering on the Sox. At Wrigley Field. They kept the game on until the Cub game was called; after that they started kicking everybody out.

I'm not going to claim the Stadium Club became a Sox bar that night, and in most other years this probably wouldn't have happened the way it did, but I thought that was kind of cool. As a die-hard Sox fan, it was something to be able to cheer on my team with at least some other Sox fans at the last place you'd expect to be able to do that at.

I have never had a problem anywhere asking the bartender to put on the Sox game if it wasn't already on. Even out this way, was was decidedly pro-Cub until a couple years ago.

This is not surprising if most of this crowd was from out of town (Ohio in particular)..the Indians are out of it and the Sox were also killing them on Satruday so that reaction to me seems normal.

In a way I agree with you, but there is a unusually large segment of the population that is immune to winning and that hates the White Sox for no reason whatsoever. These idiots wouldn't be able to wrap their tiny brains around another successful season on the South Side.

Hmm, maybe I am reading this wrong then. This is where I got my info:

But if you're looking for a spot longer in the tooth than the team itself, Kasey's Tavern (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/barsandclubs/28899,0,3908651.venue?coll=mmx-dining_fall_top_heds) is the oldest pub on the block. Well, make that every city block, save one. (Kasey's scored Chicago liquor license No. 2; the Berghoff nabbed the first). Opened in 1889, Kasey's now celebrates game days with $2 Coors cans, $3 domestic bottles and select $3 shots.
