GAME 1
Jose Contreras 12W-7L 4.09 E.R.A. vs. John Lackey 11W-9L 3.54 E.R.A.

GAME 2
Mark Buehrle 12W-12L 4.80 E.R.A. vs. Ervin Santana 14W-7L 4.53 E.R.A.

GAME 3
Freddy Garcia 13W-9L 5.02 E.R.A. vs. Joe Saunders 5W-2L 3.76 E.R.A.

All 3 should be tough games for the Sox. Santana is considerably better pitching at home than on the road (8W-1L in Angels Stadium I think). Saunders could be tough on the Sox simply because we struggle against lefties. Sox will have to play their best baseball to take this series.

All three of our ERAs are over all three of theirs. Ouch.

But, I still believe they can do it and I will continue to do so until they are mathematically eliminated.

At least we ended up missing Jarrod Weaver in this series and the Sox did sweep the Angels at Anaheim in April this season. It's definitely doable.

I'm surprised Lackey's only 11-9; I thought he was much better. Hopefully Jose will be able to take him though. If we win game 1, I would home that either Mark or Freddy would be able to put together a win, enabling us to take the series.

Here's the straight dope: the White Sox are capable of sweeping this series. The White Sox are a better team than the Angels. None of the pitching matchups is really one-sided. If the Sox want to win, they can. If they can't take two of three, then they probably don't belong in the playoffs.

And how many AAA guys will be in the game?

It's time for the Sox's powerful offense to step up and win against good pitchers. That's what championship teams do. Between being shut down by AAA pitchers and being shut down by the better pitchers in the AL, the Sox have only consistently scored enough runs against mediocre veteran pitchers.

Looking at that Sox lineup and seeing all those guys hitting around .300 PLUS all the power we have, it's just inexplicable that we cannot pound away at these opponents and just wear them down.

It's time to start winning against the kind of pitchers the Angels are going to throw at us or else the players will have plenty of time to reflect on this season beginning October 2.

Different time, different team..... on both sides.

Same with OAK.

Hopefully none.

Unless it's Sweeney.
