I love AJ. I have an AJ jersey. I stayed up all night voting AJ into the All-Star game. But boy does he have it coming, and I love it! I didn't see it in real time, but watching the replay on SportsCenter it looked like AJ flipped his bat all the way into the first base dugout. God it was beautiful.

I have an AJ jersey too, and he's definitely my favorite player.

And I can't wait for the next game when the Tribe tries to go at him. This is why I love him, he plays hard and he wants to win and he'll rub it in your face when he does something fantastic to take that win away from you. He totally deserves it. :)

I'd be willing to be 100 bucks that AJ is going to get hit in his first at-bat tomorrow, or at LEAST at some point during the game tomorrow. If they don't, well, they can toss their pride right out the window. He flipped his bat so high I almost thought it went into the stands :p He deserves whatever he gets, and I think thats sooo awesome.

I disagree. I can understand if he gets hit in the ass or something, but if they throw at his arm, elbow, knees or God forbid his head that is unwarranted.

Opposing players have flipped bats, celebrated excessively, stared into the Sox dugout, etc. this year and I don't recall the Sox ever "retaliating". After Ozzie got upset about Sean Tracey's failed attempt to hit a batter, certain media types opined about how it's never right to retaliate after one of your own players get hit because a baseball is a "deadly weapon". But apparently it's OK to take shots at A.J. with a fastball because he flipped his bat, or ran out a dropped third strike, or was called safe when tagged with an empty glove or because he pointed to the sky, etc. That's BS.

Ozzie and the Sox better protect A.J. or one of these days they are going to lose him with a serious injury and then they'll have 40 year old Sandy Alomar catching down the stretch.

Heck, they better protect him so they don't lose him next time they want to sign him to a contract. IMO, Ozzie hasn't always been entirely loyal to AJ. The Texas incident comes to mind. A few comments around the All-Star break come to mind. AJ busts his ass as much or more than any player in a White Sox uniform and every opposing GM knows it.

Yeah, maybe I should reword that. I don't think he deserves to be hit in the head in any way. I think if the Tribe tries to get back at us by plunking AJ in the ass I would be amused - only because it would show their frustration with todays game.

I agree with you, the Sox better defend AJ - when I wrote that, I guess I was assuming that they would, it didn't occur to me that they might not.

I didn't like seeing Bobby almost blow the game, though... looks like he was hurt.

He'll be plunked in the posterior, which means that homerun will have given him the rare 5-base hit.

I'd be surprised if he didn't get plunked. That said convert his at bat to a run and stick it to Cleveland.

If he gets his in the behind that is fine; if he gets hit in an area that can cause him to be out of the lineup then it is war.

AJ has to play through the remaining games; he's the best offensive option behind the plate.

Hold on a sec....

He hit a GAME WINNING WALKOFF HR IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH!

This wasn't a solo HR in a 10-2 blowout. This was one of the biggest HRs yet this year. He had every right to celebrate. If Cleveland wants to put him on base today, I'd be thrilled. We can use all the free bases they want to give us.

Esp in the first few innings when the offense doesn't seem to want to do anything.

I second that- If form holds AJ will be leading off the third inning - we never seem to dent anyone early anymore- and they will plunk him- lead-off walks or hits by pitcher score at a 45%+ rate. Juanie will continue his hot streak and get a double and Joey will green lite AJ only to be thrown out at the plate... ooops.... actually Joey will hold him at third and BA will get the two run basehit and the indians will rue that move on AJ.

I will not blame them in they hit him in the posterior- just be more of a fire under our Sox then. Its- Sox vs the World- no mercy, no prisoners- Go Sox.

That was a huge game and a huge Walk Off HR! AJ's celebration was fantastic and the home plate celebration was something I haven't seen for a long time this year. Maybe this is the spark we need to get the run to the playoffs. Maybe some more Sox players should get excited like AJ did!

If he gets hit, its part of the game, but to say the Indians don't have any pride if they choose not to hit him is crap. They choose not to get a macho game of hitting people with 90 mph baseballs over a bat flip so they don't have any pride? Come on, that's garbage.

I have never seen a walk-off home run where there was not a wild celebration by both the player and the team. Especially late in the year in a big game, but even in meaningless games.

If AJ gets hit today, it'll be because of his reputation, not because of his celebration. Hey, that almost rhymes.

If we are really anticipating that he's going to get hit, should we intentionally bat him second to get him the most scoring opportunities? Or at least higher up in the order so he has some protection?

Domeshot17
09-09-2006, 11:25 AM
a big factor in this is he did it at home. I know through my playing days, If someone did something to show us up, excessive celebration, I was to throw at them more at our park than theirs (this is just high school and college though). If we gave up a game winning hit on their park, let them celebrate all they want. If they did it on ours, and celebrated on ours, the first batter of the next game was getting one in the numbers.

That being said, the only time I remember being told to throw at someones head, we were playin in the confrence tournament, pitcher before me gave up a double (we were hosting) to bring the game to within 1, and the kid who hit started screamin at his dugout that they were unstoppable and to keep the rally going and that my school had nothing on his (from second base) just very uncalled for. So I got brought in from the pen, was told to put the next one in the next kids ear, succeeded, everyone got a warning, then got the sweetest revenge of all, struck out the next 2 kids for the save and we took the game :bandance: .

I think the fact AJ did it on his turf, and the Indians are not playing for anything will be factored into the retaliation.

I'm sure A.J. would just be crushed if he gets drilled. I agree with some of the earlier posts defending his bat and helmet toss. Ortiz does that all the time; I don't remember seeing any repercussions for his actions.

A.J. plays hard, he plays with emotion, he gives a damn. That's what other teams and their fans hate and that's what we Sox fans like about him.

When my brother and sister-in-law gave me an autographed picture of A.J. for Christmas, my brother told me, "You know, your guy A.J. is the biggest pain in the ass in baseball."

Exactly.

If they do hit AJ they will be playing into his hands. A big part of his game is to get in the heads of the other team. If they hit him he wins and Cleveland hurts themselves by putting a runner on. Will Cleveland be smart enough not to do this? I doubt it.

AJ is a gamer. He is a Bill Laimbeer type of player. You love him if he's on your team, hate him if he's with the enemy. In my opinion, he could have put a stop to a lot of the treatment he's recieved if he would have retaliated long ago. I guarantee if most guys got sucker punched like he did it would have taken more than an ump to stop them. He waits til he gets to the dugout then pumps his fist. That didn't help his reputation of being an Eddie Haskell type. But it did help Brian Anderson show that he will step up and fight whoever and whenever needed.
Also charging the mound and dropping a pitcher who just plunked that player would help to fire up a team that is in dire need of an attitude change. Now may be to late in the year to risk a suspension, but against the Angels a couple of months ago, or the Twins a few weeks ago would have been perfect times. Pitchers would think twice if they thought they were certainly going to cause a brawl and get suspended themselves.

This amused me (from whitesox.com):

"Pierzynski not only had the bunt sign, but on the first pitch from Tom Mastny neglected to advance the runner. The White Sox and Pierzynski never have been so excited by a player's inability to execute fundamental baseball."

When AJ got traded to the Giants, my first thought was "thank god he didn't go to the AL central" ... well, when he landed an a Sox uniform, I said, "uh-oh" ... I credit AJ's shennanigans for a lot of the Sox success. Just when I want to say "AJ just doesn't know when to shut up" he does something and it turns to "#---ing brilliant."

He's fun to watch and plays the game hard for the team. As much as I wanted the Sox to lose last night, I couldn't help but shake my head and smile at the way they won.

I get irritated when he gets boo-ed in teh metrodome, but he's playing right into it with his "smell-em" mockery. I hope that those last three games of the season mean something.

You can get one from www.triplethreatsports.com (http://www.triplethreatsports.com)

Authentic will be 164.99 + shipping/tax, replica will be 104.99 + shipping/tax. Don't forget to make sure you have the WS Champions patch added in too.

Edit: I thought one of the main reasons for these special jersey nights and throwbacks is to get people to buy more jerseys. It seems odd that MLB wouldn't have the green ones on their website.
