I would like to see how they plan on making it happen.

This will start another war between the players union and the owners.

Or the owners and Japan. Do they really think the Japanese baseball team owners are going to let these guys come in and gut their system?

Anyone can be gutted for the right price. Really want the players union mad? This will do it.

Sure, the owners can vote amongst themselves to make a new international draft. They can vote themselves the right to draft the moon and the stars, too. That's all within their power.

What is not in their power is to legally enforce such an arrangement. Any foreign player should have no trouble seeking recourse against the American owners in his own country's court system.

The notion that the Japanese courts would allow Japanese owners and Japanese ballplayers have their negotiating leverage cut by a silly rule imposed by American owners is preposterous on its face.

Are American baseball prospects offered less control over their destiny than foreign ones? Until one of them grows the spine (or foolishness) to legally challenge the current arrangement, the answer is, "Absolutely yes."

Of course nobody wants to flush away their chance at playing in the big leagues, so nobody can really blame the young ballplayers for going along with the charade. Those signing bonuses can be awfully lucrative, too.
