so does Buehrle not like the way AJ calls the games or what I still don't see as to why he couldn't pitch with AJ behind the plate but does a little better with Sandy

Buehrle pitches better when A.J. catches him. There's no reason Alomar should be his personal "caddy".

Buerhle's best game in quite some time was the 6-1 win over Minnesota. AJ was catching. I assume Alomar played tonight because we were facing a lefty. Plus, you can't ask a catcher to play seven days a week. You will kill him.

AJ is going to miss either Saturday or Sunday, so that means Alomar plays 50% of this series. That's ridiculous.
How can we not put our best players out there as often as possible?

Did we really give up talent for Alomar? Who's idea was that?

I wouldn't be surprised if AJ plays the rest of the series now. He HAS played day games after night games on several occasions this year.

As to whose idea it was to acquire Alomar, KW said the coaching staff asked him to trade for Sandy. I agree it was pointless. I've stated on this forum a million times that there was no rational reason to get rid of Widger. It is true Widge can't hit. Most backup catchers can't. So what?

So what?So you know everything that went on in the clubhouse? It's my understanding that Cooper wanted Widger gone because he was tired of having to go looking for him when he wanted to meet with the pitchers and catchers to discuss how they were going to approach the hitters that night.

Metaphorically, yes. You need a backup catcher, and he needs to play a couple of times a week. Usually he's a defensive specialist -- a catcher who can't hit well enough or consistently enough to earn a starting job. Some teams go the other way and put a hitter in that role. Brian Downing used to be a part-time catcher but ended up a DH when he made it to a winning team. If a good hitting catcher catches every day, there will come a point where he won't be hitting at all because catching is so taxing a position.

Maybe he was playing cards with Brett........

Why all the hate on Sandy?

Buerhle's problem has been his own pitching. I guarantee that neither Alomar, AJ, Widger, Stewart, or any other catcher we could have possibly called up or acquired would be calling for 88mph fastballs thigh high and right over the middle of the plate.

BTW, as often as Widger and Alomar have been ripped on this board, how come no one wants to rip Don Cooper? My guess is that people are smart enough to realize that he can not pitch for the pitcher, so I think people should also be smart enough to realize that a catcher can not do that either.

No hate - Alomar is what he is...a really, really bad offensive player. I "hate" the fact that we gave up talent for a poor offensive player and that we play him frequently.

I don't dislike Sandy because of the way he catches - I dislike him because he can't hit. Period. I'm sure there are plenty of other backup catchers out there who can muster up a higher batting average than Sandy.
