Word is spreading in another thread about a Lineup Shakeup for tonight's game. Does anyone have the official lineup?

Another thread says Sweeney leading off in CF. Pods batting 8th. So much for Brian getting more AB's.

I thought yesterday was pretty interesting. Can anyon say Ryan Sweeney batting leadoff and perhaps I don't know Crede in the two hole? Just speculation. Or Absolute in the two hole.

Brian can get his AB's in winter ball -- he looked awful striking out twice last night, I don't care that we won't get to see that tonight.

And I'm a fan of the kid, but he's slumping right now, so he should sit out, IMO.

Someone better ask Frater P. to sit down before he sees the lineup then. And take any blunt instruments out of his hands.

Hey, I'm fine with Sweeney. At least he's a natural outfielder (unlike Mackowiak).

Of course, I'd prefer Sweeney leading off in left, Anderson batting eighth in CF and Pods riding the pine, but with a certifiably insane idiot as manager, I guess we beggars can't be choosers.

I don't mind a shake up at all. Something needs to happen with these guys. I don't think anyone would mind this move either if Ozzie hadn't appeared to rant about BA either. When the call ups were being announced people were begging for an infusion from the call ups that teams like Minnesota seem to get.

The problem is in the interpretation of Ozzies's comments. On tape they may just sound like Ozzie is stating a fact that BA needs some winter ball and it's not really harping on him at all. In print and through posted blurbs it sounds like he's being an ass about it.

All in all I'm fine with the shake up.

Sweeney is a converted infielder.

I heard there's no DH and Contreras is batting cleanup.

And is it true that Ozzie will be employing the rare "Rover" position as a fourth outfielder? I could understand if Macko was out there...

At this point, i'd be all for a 3-4 punch of Raines and Baines

Southsidesox.com is reporting the lineup shakeup as well. Though, the Cheat is supplying no source of his information.

Supposed lineup for tonight:

CF - Sweeney
2B - Gooch
RF - MVP
DH - Mallwalker
1B - GIDPK
C - AJ
3B - Crede
LF - Pods
SS - Uribe

I stand corrected. At least he's played OF in the minors, though. All in all he should be better than Mackowiak. Of course, that's not saying much.

Seems to me if your choice is between a slumping, mediocre fielder (Pods) and a slumping, excellent fielder (BA, who you have just stated needs more ABs) you would start the later and put Sweeney in LF. Too rational I suppose.

I can't take credit... I saw it in another thread.

Sweeney is a converted infielder.

Actually, he may be a better pitcher than everyday player IIRC from his high schools days in Iowa. Wasn't he consistently in the 94s-96s mph?

If you google his name, you can find his scouting video along with his scouting report... IIRC... 93 mph fastball and a slider.

Yes.

He was too valuable a hitter to be kept as a pitcher though.

I've never understood why there are NO ballplayers who pitch one out of five days and play a position the rest of the time. Just because Miller Huggins wouldn't let The Babe pitch doesn't mean that every other player has to be treated the same way by every other organization.

He was very VERY good in high school, daughter had a huge crush on him, although he was much too old for her. I am now re-thinking that :redneck

I have to give a big shout out to TDG and his Ozzie dice, and whomever came up with the "mall walker" comment. My husband and children are now convinced that I am certifiable. I don't get it though, how can laughing hysterically be such a bad thing?

Take a good hard squint at the salaries for mediocre starting pitchers, you are not going to risk that type of investment by letting the guy play a position or bat, if he gets hurt you are out a bat and you have a hole in your rotation.

Wow - We have two diabolical graphics guys.

I like TDG's Ozzie picture better - the crazed Dr. Evil look with finger to the mouth is perfect. CF is a key alteration - we will find out how Sweeney fields the position starting tonight.

Great work and a great WSI Name - This Bud's for you!
