Why bring up Bartolo?
There's a running item in the Sun-Times called the Ex-Factor that tracks notable events on former Chicago athletes, and the Sunday Sun-Times featured Bartolo Colon. Bartolo is now in week 2 of a 10 week rehab program for a partially torn labrum (read: done for the season since appx 8/15). The story also states that Bartolo is listed at 250 lbs. but is believed to be substantially heavier. The LAAA hope he comes back to camp next year fully rehabbed and a lot lighter.
So again, why bring up Bartolo?
Because Colon will be entering the 4th and final year of his 4 yr/$51M contract in 2007, an overweight rehab-results risk. That 4th year, Sox fans will recall, was IMHO the main reason Colon signed with the LAAA instead of returning to the Sox, where he'd be lost to the team in this year's pennant race. Wonder how the LAAA feel about that deal now?
