Two notes for today including one on the guy who considering the issues the franchise had at the time, is far and away the best G.M. in team history.

September 2, 1970 - One of the key dates in franchise history as Roland Hemond is hired to rebuild the franchise. The club lost a record 106 games in 1970. The very next year they would improve by 23 games and by 1972 would be a legitimate title contender.

Hemond's early moves, including dealing for troubled star Dick Allen saved the franchise for the city after rumors were rampant during the previous seasons that the Sox were moving to Milwaukee or Dallas.

September 2, 1995 - Tim Raines has his American League record of forty consecutive steals snapped when he’s thrown out in the 3rd inning. Toronto’s Randy Knorr is the man who threw him out.

Harry Caray made those battles with the A's in '72 really special & Allen was the scariest hitter in the game....oh I loved that guy Allen
