View Full Version : Palehose Six Discussion Thread

I would like to suggest a stuck thread to discuss and post the latest Palehose Six updates, so we don't have to keep making new threads every couple of days.

This is obviously up to the mods though.

Nice little rip at McCarthy and Thorton's performance yesterday in this one.

I love today's episode w/ McCarthy and Thornton.

Actually, I'll discuss today's comic.

With all these let downs from guys like Cotts and Riske in our bullpen, it's even tougher to have our good guys come in (McCarthy and Thornton) and still give one up.
I still have a ton of confidence in them, but come on guys. We really need you now.

Anyway, MacDougal still looks great. He hasn't appeared in a Palehose Six yet.

The Members List stats show his last visit here on July 11. So, he is either scanning the board anonymously or just has a great instinct for Sox fans in general. The August 29 comic is straight out of a standard WSI postgame loss thread.

I wouldn't doubt that he draws inspiration from some of what's posted on here. Although, all he has to do is listen to the Ranger take calls for 10 minutes to get the same idea.

Hey, it's Carl Skanberg. A WSI/ Palehose Six fan informed me that I have acheived "stuck thread" status. Very cool. Thanks. I appreciate it, and I appreciate all of the threads that have been started over the past few months.

I'm not a regular reader of the message board, but I am a Sox fan, so I'm sure we are sharing the same joys and frustrations as we follow the Sox. The WSI message board contributors cover EVERYTHING. I don't think I could come up with a comic strip topic that hasn't been covered.

I'm really proud of the way Sox fans have gotten into the strip. Hopefully we're all reading the story of a pirate crew that will capture the trophy at the end of their voyage. I already have the strip written for when the Palehose Six passes the Liger. I hope it doesn't go to waste.

Thanks again for the support!
-Carl

brilliant stuff. Absolutely hilarious and is nailing this roller coaster ride of a season perfectly. More people need to see this though! We need to spread the word like good WSI members do.

The crew logo is totally cool and cracks me up every time I look at it. I suggest everyone order a shirt. I will be wearing mine to my next Sox game Friday.

Keep em coming Carl, hope it lands you a full time gig!

Note to Captain Hand:
At the end of the season I hope you will put all of the Palehose Six "episodes" together in a book (win or lose). You might annotate them and include a running summary of the season so the references will be clear in a few years. And of course a cast of characters. I think that would be a unique and special "diary" of a pretty special White Sox season (win or lose).

Your work is really world class, and could sell to more than WSI Sox fans if you put it in a form that can be understood without total in-season immersion. Of course a good part of the charm is the obscurity of the references and the fact that you can only laugh if you are totally immersed, so the annotation would have to be somewhat subtle.

Any seconds?

I think Carl liked the idea (I do too) but he knew it wasn't that funny. Hence the guy on the cell phone, which I actually thought was pretty good.

Oh, I wasn't complaining, I love the strip. I agree, he was making a point, one he's made before -- the strip with Ozzie being told to play Mack.

And the cell phone is right on.

Carls new strips about Panic and Frank are depressing.

(No offense, Carl. They're still funny, really. It's just what they represent that depresses me.)

Well, there's nothing really funny about what this season has become. As long as it actually represents what the fanbase is thinking, the strip rules.

Unfortunately, he's hit the nail on the head with this weekend's strips...
