Our next game will be after the rosters expand on Sept. 1. Is there any official word on which call ups will be joining the Sox in Kansas City for this weekend's series?

I believe I read somewhere that Charlie Haeger will be one and used as a Long-Relief.

It appears to me the top options are going to be:

Haeger
Boone Logan

those are all I've heard right now.

Charlotte got rained out tonight, but they did start the game and Ryan Sweeney was not in the lineup.

How many people can the Sox call up? I'm wondering if they can call up Sean Tracey as well so they can further solidify their bullpen.

IIRC, up to 15 (not likely). Maybe a backup catcher? I know Owens was already called up, not sure about any other position players (but haven't followed the minors that much. Sweeney probably could be in there too) And probably some bullpen arms

Anyone on the 40-man roster. Sweeney will have to get his contract purchased from Charlotte tomorrow if he's coming up since he's not on the 40-man currently.

They can call up 15 guys if they wish. But that won't happen. Whichever three or four guys they think can help will be recalled. Ozzie has already stated they won't recall a guy from Charlotte just because that player had a good season. They want guys that are going to play and contribute.

I would like to see Tracey get a recall. I'd rather have his power arm than Haegar. I'd bring up Logan too. Can he do worse than Cotts has done lately? Ozzie will want a third catcher, so look for Stewart to get called up. Owens, as you probably already know, will be on the team after he is eligible to return from the DL.

Thanks for the answers guys! Yeah I would much rather have Tracey up than Haegar. Nothing against Haegar, but a knuckleballing reliever is not the thing this team needs right now trying to get into the postseason. Who am I to say anything though? Who knows, Haegar may turn out to be good.

I kind of wish they could have done what they did with Owens to Boone. Who knows the return to the main club might spark some lights out pitching.

Boone Logan needs a second chance.

I have to agree with you; the idea of a knuckleball specialist coming out of the pen scares me.

Knuckleball pitchers cannot control the ball as it is and the White Sox would want to run the risk with calling up a pitcher who cannot hold runners on and has a higher probability of throwing a wild pitch?

Someone is not thinking in management...

On our local news (Sweeney is a local to my area, graduated from CR Xavier) they were talking last night about his 'call-up' to the majors. That the Sox pulled him up for the roster expansion. Not sure how officiial that is, but it was on TV. :redneck

I can't wait to see Haeger again. When he throws for strikes he can make hitters look foolish.

I would assume that not many will be brought up until after the Minor league Playoffs?

I've heard this thinking before, but I don't get it. What is the point of keeping players down in the minors that can help us up here? Even if they only help us a tiny tiny bit, the goal of the organization is to win the World Series, not the minor league trophy.

But players competing for a AAA title would be better experience, IMHO, than sitting on a major league bench.

Redding is right-handed and is not better than any of the current right-hand options we have in the bullpen right now or Montero or Tracey, IMO.

Would be a waste.

I think Chris Stewart (C) was also under consideration.

I don't get bringing up Sweeney. There's no way Ozzie plays him over Mack or Pods.

Just announced on the Score.....Boone Logan & knuckleballer Charlie Hagan were called up by the Sox

that's all that I heard

And IIRC, Owens was called up earlier, but placed on the 15-day DL, so that makes 3.

More pitching. Awesome. Glad to see Boone Logan is getting another shot. He can't be any worse than Cotts right onw. Maybe the time in AAA helped him sort stuff out.

No real big surprises other than Fields not getting a callup.

Keep in mind Charlotte is in the playoffs, and Fields really won't find much playing time. He'd only be Crede's backup.

I'm sure Sean Tracey will be up after the playoffs are over for the Knights.

I think your perspective is awfully short. While a couple of guys might be useful right now, playing in the playoffs at any level can be a great way to prepare guys for future playoff events.

If we brought up a LHP who would sit on the bench and pitch all of two innings here in a nothing game or let him get two starts in a playoff atmosphere at Charlotte. If we are in the hunt next year and the kid is in our rotation, then his experience will be very helpful.

He did in high school, I actually watched this kid pay as a freshman all the way through his high school career. I knew I shoulda asked him for his autograph back then. :redneck
