We all have our World Series goodies, but would you some that said "White Sox 2006 AL Wild Card" on it?

I didn't buy any merchandise until we won it all. I will admit it was hard not buying American League Champs gear. I held out

I've been a fan for 35 years....that would represent our 5th post season appearance in that time span...I'll wear whatever represents our biggest achievement this year.

I never buy anything celebrating lesser round wins. Championship gear or regular team gear. Thus has it ever been for me. I don't celebrate second place and don't want the baseball gawds to think I do...

Why would I want Tigers stuff?
I'll buy the Sox division champ stuff

Jerko

I have 2005 Central Division and American League Champs stuff, so I do buy the stuff as it comes out. I also have at least 4 items that say 2000 central division champs, and I also have a 1993 WEST divison champ hat. I still wear those even though they didn't win the WS those years. Probably wouldn't buy "wild card champs" stuff though. :dunno:

You mean Twins stuff. The horseshoe is falling out of Detroit's ass, and the Tigers will finish third.

yeah...why not? the wild card has made the ws the last 4 years, and 3 of those four years the wild card WON the ws.

I wouldn't even buy an AL pennant shirt. I don't want to walk around and remind the world that we lost the World Series. Now if you do win it all, then I think the different logos and such are cool to have.

After a World Series victory, to me, everything else pales by comparison. So no, I wouldn't buy Wild Card paraphenalia

Fake Chet Lemon

No.

Houston was really weird about that last year. They had a big ceremony and hoisted a HUGE banner that said "Wild Card Champion" last year. That was so stupid, that doesn't go together. That's like the Cubs hoisting a huge "5th Place Champion!" banner every year. Champions should win something, "winning" second place makes you champion of nothing.

skottyj242
08-28-2006, 12:56 PM
Yes, this would be the first time in franchise history (please correct me kindly if I am wrong) that we made it to the postseason two years in a row.

skottyj242

It's very possible the Sox can have the second best record in the AL and still make the playoffs so that's an achievement in itself.

I bought and al champs shirt last year because when you think about it, its the same as a world series champs shirt.

I will not buy anything with wild card on it.

On the wall in my family room--among other souvenirs--are hanging the following:

a framed 1985 Bears Super Bowl Champions T-shirt
a framed 2001 D'Backs World Series Champions T-shirt
a framed 2005 White Sox World Series Champions Locker Room T-shirt

and, in deference to MrMarySwiss, wayyyy down at the bottom of the wall near the floor

a framed 1989 Chicago Cubs National League Champion Eastern Division sweatshirt in that horrible "Cubbie blue" color that some one bought at a garage sale and gave to the hubby as a joke. I laugh every time I look at it and frequently consider rehanging it upside-down.

So, no wild card crap for me. I want the 2006 White Sox World Series Champions Locker Room T-shirt up there next. :D:

I waited last year to see how far the Sox would get and I'll wait again this year. Even Division championships often don't mean much (e.g., 2000, NL West, NL Central). I'd buy AL championship stuff - which this year would probably mean mean a world series title, so I'll wait.

I don't know. It would look kinda weird to walk around with a "2006 American League Wild Card Champions" shirt on, especially if they don't make it to the ALCS, or the World Series. Then, if they do make the World Series, what's the use of a Wild Card shirt when you can buy an AL Champions t-shirt, or possibly a World Champions t-shirt? I'm all for the Wild Card, and it's great for baseball, but I think I'll pass on a t-shirt.

Exactly. Like I said, I'm all for the Wild Card, and it's great for baseball, but...no. Bragging about barely making it in? I think the only year I can recall in which the Wild Card wasn't a race in either league was in 2001, when Oakland won it.

I waited last year until I saw how far they would go. Then I went hog-wild buying stuff that said "World Series Champions".

I can still go to certain stores today and pick up a ALC Division Champion shirt or even an AL Pennant shirt if I wanted to.

No way. I wouldn't have done it anyway, but especially not after last year. Even referring to winning the Wild Card as a "championship" of any kind is completely ridiculous IMO - leave that to the Flubbie fans.

Steelrod
08-28-2006, 03:45 PM
Sure.
Just add it to all the other stuff that I have saved up over the years. Will be quite some adventure some day for my grandkids to discover and ask about. I look forward to answering questions about the good old days!

Last year after they clinched, a friend in Chicago who was coming out here to visit bought me an AL Central Division champs shirt. I was glad to get it just in case that was all they did, and I still wear it, but after the WS win, I'm spoiled. I'll wait for the 2006 version.

No, there is no such thing as a Wild Card Champion. It would be an embarrassment to see any Sox fan wearing such merchandise. Who is going to wake up one day and think: "I'm going to the game today, should I wear my '2005 World Series Champions' shirt or '2006 Best Second Place Team' shirt?"

Hopefully, anyone who does buys the Wild Card shirt will just replace it four weeks later with a World Champs shirt anyway.

I have personal rules against buying commemorative sports apparel, i.e. All-Star Game 2003, 2000 AL Central Champs, 2006 World Series Champs, etc.. I'm a fan of the team, not of the event.

Not to say that a postseason berth would curb me picking up another Sox shirt. I'm a sucker for a successful franchise just like anyone else.

chisoxfanatic

I definitely wouldn't buy anything. When you've got the taste of a World Series in your mouth like all of us do, just knabbing the wild card does not seem very exciting. I'd wait for the repeat shirts to come out, which hopefully will in a couple of months.

SoXPriDe33

I would buy a Wild Card shirt. I have a shirt from the winning the division, winning the pennant and winning the world series. My world series shirt has shrunk in the wash so i really can't wear it out in public because well it wouldn't look right so I wear my AL Champs shirt all the time. I think it would just be cool to have to be able to have shirt that shows the way the Sox won the 2006 World Series if it were to happen.

roylestillman

No.

And please don't have a flag/banner in the park in honor of the achievement. If we win the division, fine.

Railsplitter

If the Sox hadn't won it all, maybe I wouldn't think of it, but since I have WS paraphenallia, maybe a Wild Card pin wouldn't be too bad.

I was curious how others would think.

Agreed... I have 1 division champ shirt and 1 AL Champ shirt from last year. The majority of stuff I own says World Champs on it, but those play-offs last year were an incredible ride from start to finish. Obviously the end helped make it all the more sweet, but still... the Sox have never been to the post-season back-to-back years ever. Can't help myself to commerate history.

Of course, I do plan on stocking up on plenty of quality 2006 World Championship crap, but 1 Wild Card Champ pennant wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Initially I was thinking no way would I buy WC stuff. But making the AL playoffs this year would be a respectable achievement, regardless of whether it is WC or winning the division. So my answer is maybe.

No sir I would not buy that. Maybe something that says "Division Series."

AL Champs and WS Champs are a shoe-in

On second thought, maybe I'd take one of my existing Sox shirts and get some lettering done on the back:

Or something like that.

So technically I'd still have never bought commemorative merchandise...

back in 2000 i didnt bother getting a division shirt. I said this teams winning it all, I dont want a division championship, **** that. Last year I got smart, I decided im gonna buy the AL central shirt and enjoy it because it could be all I get. Then I bought a AL shirt and hat, until getting the WS hat and shirt. I feel it was lucky to get everything along the way
