They are getting unbelievable work out of the bullpen from 21-year-old lefty Fabio Castro, a former White Sox farmhand who gave up no runs and five hits in his first 17 1/3 innings.

from chicagosports.com

Obviously, it would be nice to have Castro now instead of Cotts. Oh, well. At least some of our minor leaguers are proving capable, and it is the NL.

He had given up 5 hits and 4 runs in 8 innings while walking 7 when he was with Texas the first part of the season.

This was an interesting omission from the 40 man simply because we had a ton of dead weight on it that were later released. Our 40 man was at like 37 entering the season. I wonder what the thinking was.

Two words: NATIONAL LEAGUE.

He wasn't very good with Texas and probably wouldn't be very good with the Sox.

he was worth a spot on the 40 man roster everyone was questioning it at the time and when we lost him to texas people were pissed... Some things are just hard to understand.

This kind of stuff happens all the time.

Jenks, Turnbow were cut from the Angels, remember?

There are scores of guys who escaped the radar of an organization and emerged with someone else, like that Rule 5 guy the Astros never saw hope in, Johan Santana.

On the other hand, let's not hand Castro the Cy Young just yet. When he's made his third All-Star team, we'll talk then. Less than 20 innings of work does not make me want to trade Cotts for him (even though I have come to have difficulty watching Neal pitch too!).

I'd rather have Cotts. Neal will come out of this funk. Just have patience.

same here, what really blows my mind is some of the same people who want us to send down cotts are the same ones who are all about letting buehlre and contreras ride out their funks. Trust me, this time next year, We will be glad we have Neil Cotts. This time last year everyone wanted to annoint him the closer over some kid named Jenks who threw hard but was pretty hefty.
