View Full Version : Predictions For The Twins Series

Probable pitching matchups for this huge 3-game set at home Fri-Sun:

Friday:
Brad Radke (12-9, 4.35) vs. Javier Vazquez (11-8, 5.13)

Saturday:
Johan Santana (15-5, 3.03) vs. Jose Contreras (11-6, 4.04)

Sunday:
Carlos Silva (8-11, 6.45) vs. Mark Buehrle (10-11, 4.87)

So what are we going to be looking at come the end of this series? Personally, I'm feeling like we're going to get Johan this Saturday, as I feel like Jose is ready to step up huge. I'm saying 2 out of 3, with a chance to sweep if we get some good run support Friday.

I have a feeling we will win this series. With thome out of the lineup for the next couple games its gonna be a good change up.

2-3.

Game 1: Vasquez is on a short leash w/ Ozzie. Unless he pitches one of his random gems, don't look for any chances to be taken. Offense remains perky.

Game 2: Gotta go with the numbers. Santana mystery remains unsolved. Contreras better, but not good enough.

Game 3: Buerhle deals a sloppy quality start. Silva gets served.

Im thrilled with the split. All I have to say is, IT IS TIME TO STEP IT UP. I am sick of Minnesota. They are not that good were we can't beat em. The sox need to show what they are made of, and what a perfect time.

The Sox need to figure something out about Santana. His ERA is above 0.00, though you would think otherwise when watching him pitch against the Sox

I see them taking 2 outta 3, I still don't see them figuring out Santana, but I have no problem with being proved wrong

2 out of 3. There is none better than Johan. If they get a few runs off them early they have a shot.

I guess the good thing about facing Santana is that it's not in Minnesota this time so they at least have some chance.

The Sox did score 3 runs in our last game against Santana. We just can't win against him if we give up SEVEN runs. It all comes back to pitching. Last year, we would have won that kind of game 3-2.

My prediction is that the Sox win only 1 out of 3. Sorry. Prove me wrong guys!

Sox will trail by 2.5 games going into the next Tigers series at USCF.

Our best chance to get to 2.5 games will be when we play Tampa while the Tigers play the Yankees. It's a good opportunity for the Sox.

Realistically, we can only hope for 2 of 3. The way Santana has historically dominated the Sox, especially down the stretch like this, suggest a snowball has a better chance in hell than the Sox do at winning that game.

Silvia is a chump and should get beat, assuming Buehrle doesn't serve up his usual bevy of meatballs.

Its that first game against Radke that I'm worried about...

I have no idea how they'll do. These are the 'schizoid Sox' remember?

Suffice it to say they could go a long way towards getting that wild card spot if they won 2 of 3 games. If they can beat the Twins enough, Ozzie's "95 wins and in" might not be needed.

And they want to avoid at all costs, having to win more then one game in Minnesota to clinch, to close the season.

Right now the Sox and the Twins might be the two best teams in baseball. What sucks is most likely one of them is going to miss the playoffs. I really hope its the Twins.

I still don't think they will figure out Santana but I think they will light up their bullpen after he gets taken out. It will also be nice to see a walk off sometime this weekend....when is the last time the Sox had a walk off anyway?

I am not trying to be pessimistic, but the Sox must win this series to maintain the lead on the Twins. The only way they are going to do that is if the starting pitchers in the series step it up and pitch some of their best games of the season. As we all know, the Twins are pesky. If guys like Tyner and Punto get on base in half their at-bats, the Sox will not have much success. Our starting pitching needs to dominate in this series. You know the Twins are confident with Santana going Saturday, and they know if they can just get one of the other games they will leave Chicago ahead in the standings.

I am sick of getting beat by these guys. Every time I think about their celebration after the sweep in their last trip to Chicago, I feel ill. I would love nothing more than to see the Sox raise their game a notch or two and sweep this series, but I will be very happy with two out of three.

Gonna be a madhouse there, cant wait!!!! I honestly think we sweep this series. It's just a matter of time till Santana has an off day, and we pound him for 8 or so, and this is the weekend I think. Minny playin tonight to, whiuch helps, as we are already home, and hopefullly resting, and not :gulp: . Need this series definately 2 of 3, sweep would just really put us livin in a tree!!

Right now, this Sox team should have 3 aces - THREE! With Garland on a roll, Contreras and Buehrle should be joining in to make one of the most formadible pitching trios in baseball.

Alas, our only good starter now is Garland - and the Twins don't have to face him this weekend. Having MB and JC struggle is killing us. What happened to these guys? And I don't believe the "too many innings last year" theory. If we could get all 3 of these guys on track, I honestly believe we can live with Garcia and Vazquez's mediocrity and still be the best team in the AL.

Now's the time MB and JC. This is the time to return to normal. 5.5 out, 0.5 wild card lead, end of August - LET'S GO!!!

I hope we win at least 2 of 3, but wouldn't be surprised if we lost 2 of 3......... Just like last weekend, Friday's game is the swing game IMO. If we win tomorrow, i think we will take 2 of 3 or maybe even sweep. But if we lose it, I'm afraid it will go the other way. SO STEP IT UP JAVY!!

Last weekend, I think the Sox just wanted one of three, because it kept the wildcard lead.

The Twins are a .500 team at best on the road, they are only in contention because of the goofy dome.

Santana is tough but can be beaten on the road and both other Twins starters are solidly beatable. I think the Sox take 2 of 3.

They are 44-20 at home and 30-32 on the road at this time. They had that hot stretch when they swept the Royals and the Sox.

This is not a good road team.

This is not a good road team.

The Twins had a crappy April and May, so looking at the whole season record in any category doesn't reflect how they've played lately. That's why I pointed out that they've only lost three road games since the all-star break.

That being said, anything could happen in this series. Every day is a new day and all that.

I'm happy to see we're favored in game 1. Amazingly enough, we were underdogs in every game of the Detroit series, even Garland against Miner, despite our domination of them this year. There are six weeks left in the season; even a sweep either way in this series would not assure anything.
