Anyone else see this collision between Rowand and Utley in the scrubs game? Aaron was pretty slow getting up. Looks like his leg is pretty banged up.

That was pretty brutal, Aaron looked like he snapped his neck when he hit the ground. Almost looked like a rag doll out there.

Just saw the play this morning. All that and only a sprained ankle?!??!

OF COURSE HE'S THE REASON THE SOX WON LAST YEAR!! HE HAS TO BE THE LUCKIEST SOB ON THE PLANET!!!!!

Good God did that look horrific. He probably has a sprained neck as well, as there is no way he landed like that without straining/spraining his neck and back. That's a very good way of breaking your neck.

That sucks, but it's not too surprising. Given the way he had to leave the field and the look on his face while sitting on the field, you could tell something was likely wrong. I guess it's a good thing that it's only a broken ankle with the way he landed on his head/shoulders.

Get well soon, again, Aaron. :gulp:

Oh no, poor Aaron! :(:

I saw that collision -- I confess that I couldn't bear to watch the Sox game any longer so I flipped on the "other" game so I could cheer for the Phillies, whom I like because of Rowand. (No, I don't want him back on the Sox, I just like him as a player and always will.)

Poor Aaron, this has been quite the year for him. I'm so sorry to hear this.

Rowand said he stumbled on an uneven patch of ground as he charged John Mabry's blooper and could not avoid second baseman Utley.
Did the Tribune Company sell the Cubs and not tell us??????? They allowed a statement in their propaganda instrument to raise the possibility that Wrigley Field may be unfit for baseball???????

I'm not loving that he got hurt, but I'm not shocked and it's the second time this season a collision he initiated cost him time on the DL. There's a fine line between playing hardnosed, balls-to-the-wall defense and playing out of control. Aaron seems to have crossed that line and he's lucky not only that he didn't seriously injure Utley too, but cost the Phillies a game in a tight WC race. I didn't see game, but that picture shows the ball coming out of Utley's mitt as it comes off of Utley's hand.

Defend him all you want, the facts speak for themselves...

And how about when Iguchi and Dye collided this year and Iguchi was out for a few games. THis is not limited to the Wrigley Field turf, Aaron being out of control or anything else. Have we not learned anything by watching the Sox fumble around in the outfield or Mike Cameron's famous play where he broke his cheekbone. Accidents happen all the time on those inbetween balls.

Actually I think you are right. Rowand's gonzo style of play in the field has more downside than benefits, and in this particular instance, Utley CLEARLY had the ball and Rowand should have veered off the play.

Maybe he tried to and that's when he hit that uneven patch of turf, I don't know. But it wasn't A-Row's ball and he shouldn't have taken Utley out on the play.

Aaron's going to have a lot of aches and pains and arthritis when he gets old. His body has taken so much abuse between the motorcycle accident, collisions with the wall and other players.

He truly is like a football player out there. I am glad it was only the ankle. He will always be a white sox fan fav for 05. I wish him well.

I like listening to Murphy on the Score during lunch. Anyway.....

I got in my car around 2:30 and since the radio was still tuned to WSCR I happened to catch Boers & Bernstein (shudder) for a few minutes and they were having a ball calling Rowand an "idiot", "masochist," and assorted other crap. They were basically saying Rowand likes to get hurt on purpose to put on a show and then enjoys playing the martyr when he's injured. They were reveling in hatred and proceeded to insult a caller who tried to defend Rowand when I turned off the Score.

Think what you want about Rowand as a player, but Boers and Bernstein are the two biggest jerks on the planet. I never listen to them intentionally. I'll have to remember in the future to never leave the car radio tuned to the Score so I don't ever have to accidentally catch their **** again. I wish the Sox were never on WSCR anyway.

Broken ankle=done for season=lowered his value a TON going into his Free Agent off-season.

Seriously, the man needs to grow up. No joke, he could of killed himself on that ass-over-end tumble. Not only did he break his own ankle, he hurt his teammate. When you are reckless and hurt yourself, that is bad. When you hurt your teammates due to it, that is irresponsible. Don't give me that "accidents happen" BS. Accidents are fluke incidents. Rowand is a walking car wreck waiting to happen.

I like him as a person, he's an above average outfielder, but the novelty of "Crash" is over. Hope when he does get signed in the off-season, (and I'm sure for less money than what he was worth prior to breaking his ankle) he realizes that you can play hard without being a crash test dummy in the field.

After the Sox game I was recording ended, the feed shifted to the Cubs-Phillies game and I got to watch Rowand's reckless play several times. He's lucky he didn't break his neck and put Utley out of action, also.

At this point in Rowand's life and career, it's possible to say with assurance that some of the incidents people call "accidents" are just self-induced for him. On that particular fiasco, the play was in front of him all the way and he still ended up ass over teakettle. When you make a career out of this style of play, your career will probably be abbreviated. Anyway, Aaron may be a heck of nice guy, but he isn't helping his team much on the disabled list - again.
