I just saw a video on Youtube of George Bell going after Aaron Sele. When did this happen and why?

Sele, pitching for the Red Sox in 1992 (IIRC), threw a pitch behind George Bell in a game at Comiskey Park. After the following pitch also went behind Bell, he charged the mound.

Either '92 or '93. Sele threw inside to Bell or even hit him, and Bell charged the mound. Mo Vaughn sort of caught him with a block before he could get to Sele though.

I remember this game! It was my very first at New Comiskey...crazy...I just remember at the time thinking it was the coolest thing I ever saw.

Wow! Life in the Northern League...

That Pearson guy is the size of a moose...and you can tell its a minor league ump because he tried to be a peacemaker and got nailed. Would have been even more entertaining if the photgraphers and guy holding the microphone that ran onto the field would have gotten pummeled as well...I can dream, can't I?

I still cringe every time I see Ventura get his ass handed to him by Ryan. Robin, why didn't you just take your base!!?

They show this video on ESPN alot of George Bell getting body blocked out of the way.

Does anyone remember who gave Jack McDowell a a real good shiner after charging the mound and blasting him. I want to say it was against the Blue Jays. For some reason I think it was Mark Whitten, but I'm not completly sure.

I hate seeing that, too. Many baseball fans remember Ventura for only that, and he was such a good player and a good competitor for so long. Nolan Ryan's a jerk. I wish Ventura had smacked him silly.

Didn't Black Jack and Eddie Vedder (yes, that Eddie Vedder) get in a fight with some drunks in a bar in New Orleans once?

Black Jack was rendered unconscious when he got knocked to the ground and hit his head, iirc.

Yes, it was Whitten.

I'm almost positive it was not Whitten but Glenallen Hill.

It was Mark Whiten of the Jays who came out to the mound against Black Jack, I'm positive of it.

I remember McDowell's pitch sailed BEHIND Whiten and didn't hit him, but Whiten charged the mound anyway.

McDowell had the presence of mind to stay on the mound because the rules state if the pitcher comes off the mound to fight he would get suspended. So Whiten came up to McDowell on the mound and threw a haymaker and caught McDowell flush below his eye before he was restrained by Jack McDowell's teammates.

I was at this game. If I remember right, Jorge took a swing and was knocked down before he made contact.
