The Twins just didn't want it as much as the Sox tonight.

Garland is the best pitcher on the staff right now. Great performance. No matter what happens tomorrow, we'll leave Minnesota with the wild-card lead. A win over Santana would be HUGE. Let's take this series, boys.

Actually, I think if the Sox can acquire a shortstop who can lead off (Vizquel), next year Mackowiak might be the regular (or platoon) left fielder.

Great game by Mackowiak tonight. That doesn't mean he belongs in CF, though.

Any possibility we might finish this year first?

Grrrrrrrreat outing by JG, we needed that. Now, if we can get Vazquez to listen to Coop for the entire outing, and focus on the footwork, arm follow through, we might match up well with Santana, especially if we can get the Twinkies defense to play like they did today  .

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Santana might be looking for AJ's head tomorrow? After his fist-pumping jubilation at beating out the pickle, me thinks the Twinks will want to calm him down. Just me? Okay then.

I have to say

(a) Most of the minnesota fans around us were very hospitable. One guy told me "Its cool, you cheer for your team as hard as I cheer for mine, doesnt mean we have to be *******s to each other"

Ozzie,

For the 3rd time....I am begging you on my knees, do NOT play the all righty lineup tommorrow against Santana...EVERYONE knows that lefties hit him better and throw him off his fastball-changeup routine.

I suggest this

C) AJ
1b) Paulie
2b) Pablo or Guch
Ss) Pablo or Uribe
3B) Crede
Lf) Pods
Cf) Mack
Rf) Dye
Dh) Thome

Give Iguchi or Uribe a day off and play Pablo since he does hit Santana well and bat him 2nd behind Pods.

We give up some defense with this lineup, but since Javy will be walking everyone, the defense would probably be bad anyway.

Who thought they were going to lose tonight?

Still, Radke did very well and deserved better from his defense. It has happened to our starters a couple of times this season, although they haven't battled back against adversity as consistently as we would hope.

But tonight, hopefully, was a step in the right direction.

22-18 over the next 40 games and we're at 95-67.

I completely disagree with your comments on Soriano. I have seen him play a great deal this season with the Nationals. He has been a pleasant surprise in left field. In fact, I would say he has played a better left field than Pods this year, especially considering this is his first year out there.

He can only hit lead off? Are you kidding? If the Nationals had anyone even remotely capable of leading off, Soriano would be batting third or fourth where he belongs.

Also, I have never once gotten the impression that he is selfish.

Having said all of that, I have no interest in discussing what the Sox may or may not do for next year. I just felt the need to defend Soriano, who has become one of my favorite non-Sox players.

I have to tip my hat to mack tonite. I want BA in cf at all times but I know mack has to play occasionally and he did a fine job in cf tonite and a stellar job at the plate. Just wish he could be used to spell Joe for a game instead. Joe's swing is big and a little slow right now.

Big Jon is oozing confidence on the mound right now. It is amazing the ebb and flow of his season again this year. Altho both years even when he was bad - he won a few games.

This was a nice win. Tomorrow is not do or die now. We get beat , we are still wildcard leaders.

I have to say

(a) Most of the minnesota fans around us were very hospitable. One guy told me "Its cool, you cheer for your team as hard as I cheer for mine, doesnt mean we have to be *******s to each other"I've never had a problem with Twins fans at a game. Minnesota people generally pride themselves on being hospitable; it's called "Minnesota nice." Seriously, as I was leaving Friday night's game, an obnoxiously drunk Twins fan was howling "nice game Sox! Good win Sox." I was totally dressed in Sox gear, and all I did was turn around and look at him, not a glare, nothing, and he immediately said "sorry man."

(3) The metrodome SUCKS, and, I hate the gallon of milk more in person then on TVI was with one of my former students who is a huge Twins fan. He commented on the milk jug that it was perfectly fitting as it was obnoxiously fake in a fake ballpark.

Sox Win, all that matters, Can't wait to get home to chicago. Minnesota is so not brown, but at least it beats Glen Ellyn.I don't understand the brown reference (I guess it's something from a game thread of a few weeks ago) but the Twin Cities is not Minnesota, any more than Chicago is Illinois.

Great win tonight. Garland.. AMAZING job.. Good game Sox. Another thing I don't want to be overlooked. I am really impressed with the way Thome plays the game. He plays the game the way it should be played, and puts 110% into every game. He is always hustling. On ground balls if you notice sometimes it seems like our players should be hustling more, but Thome always tries and always hustles. Great game all around Sox.

10 road wins, 14 overall-pretty darn good. He's 10-1 in his last 11. If not for a rocky start, he'd be top Cy Young candidate.

Besides, Anderson is batting about .340 since the break. He should start EVERY GAME.

I would say 5 out of every 6. Today was actually a pretty good day to give him off for 2 reasons:

1. That damn turf
2. Radke throwing that slow.

Anderson plays tomorrow, the 4 games in Comerica, and next Friday. He gets the day off next Saturday.

ANY guy up the middle needs a breather here and there. I wouldn't mind seeing Dye or Crede get a day off soon, either. You can't do it tomorrow with Santana pitching (not fair to throw Mack to the wolves like that), but maybe you can sneak Mack (or Cintron, he's been killing the Tigers this year) into a game at 3B.

Just read that Alomar starts tomorrow. That's OK. The 4 in Detroit are big and a rested AJ is a good AJ. My take on tomorrow is if KC can hammer Jose the Sox can hammer Santana.

Someday soon we will be saying that about Javier Vazquez.

If Ozzie goes to the pen at the beginning of the 6th inning, I think Javy would get a ton of wins.

That won't cut it.

Actually, all of a sudden, with the Red Sox ship sinking, 95 wins may cut it. It's going to be close. If the Twins go on a little slide, 95 might be the magic number.

I agree. If Minnesota is all we have to contend with I like our chances.

Minnesota looks like a very good team to me. They play the game the right way.
