View Full Version : 2006 Success: It's ALL About the Pitching

It's not about Ozzie, or Brian Anderson, or Pods, or intensity..it's about the pitching. In 2005 the White Sox led the American League in pitching. (#1 overall, #1 for starters, #2 of relievers). In 2006, we are 9th overall, 6th for starters and 9th for relievers. Personally, I can't really fault KW for the staff that has been assembled...but they are just not delivering...especially Vazquez, Buehrle, Garcia and Cotts. Let's hope they get it together for the final 6 weeks of the regular season.

I can't fault Kenny either, the staff is extremely talented staff. They just aren't executing the way they should be.

It seems that sometimes Freddy just doesn't care when he is out there.

Well obviously. What's team batting averge, about .285? Would you have believed we'd be in second place with a .285 team average, not to mention four guys on pace for well over 30 homers and 100 rbis? Last year it was like .257. You can look at Ozzie, KW, lack of clutch hitting or this or that, but the reality is the pitchers are not performing. Give us one less run per game to overcome and we're probably over 80 wins right now.

I can't find fault with the acquisitions either. KW has done a great job fixing perceived flaws from last year's team.

As mentioned, the execution is not there. The eye of the tiger if you will seems to be missing. No killer instinct.

Garcia is a big disappointment, and I don't know why. Cotts seems to have lost it, looks like a pitching machine up there.

Vazquez is basically a bust, one good game two weeks ago. The other games he's won were won by the offense. I believe Buehrle will come around, he's too good not to round back into form.

I wonder how many games they would have won if Vazquez and Garcia were pulled after the fifth inning in most of their starts? The hell with their delicate egos, do it if it has to be done to win. I'll bet they've lost 6 or 8 games at least due to leaving these two in too long. Possibly more.

2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Yes, it's all about pitching. If Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras and Vazquez step it up over this next month and a half, we'll be in the playoffs again. If not, we'll be going home.

2006 Success: It's ALL About the Pitching

When isn't it? Did we all just fall off the turnip truck?

The old adage is that pitching is 80% of the game, isn't it?

Santana vs Vazquez sounds like a mismatch, but as we've seen all year; strange things happen. Unless the Sox forfeited the game and I didn't hear about it, they will be out there this afternoon. Hopefully Vazquez can make it to the dreaded sixth and survive it. :o:
