Today, Joe Cowley reported (http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-soxnt18.html) that Fields "has been seeing some time in the outfield." Is there any basis for this, or is it just another typical Cowley BS moment? I know there was some discussion of working Fields in the OF this fall but, IIRC, he's been used only at 3B.

Shocking that Cowley would get his facts wrong.

Maybe the 'time in the outfield' is before the game...? Anyone showed up early to a Knights game recently?

I think BA reported that he was going to play in right during winter ball...think he'll do a good job.

Why would he play in RF? Are they moving Dye to left?

I thought he was supposed to play LF?

LF sounds right for BA ... I can't see moving him to right unless there thinking of getting rid of Dye ... I highly doubt they would consider that. This means maybe there looking for a big offseason addition. Or maybe bringing Rowand back.

They're not going to bring Rowand back. That train has left the station.

I believe BA means Baseball America, not Brian Anderson...unless Brian is moonlighting as a reporter.

I wonder if Dewon Day will get a look at making the pen next spring?

Has anyone seen him pitch this season?

And is "Angel" Gonzalez the same prospect as the infamous Andy Gonzalez? And why are we even bothering to send him to the AFL? Is there legit thought about him taking over for Iguchi? News to me.

Yes, Angel Gonzalez = Andy Gonzalez. He fell off the map after a some low-average years, but has since picked it up and switched from SS to 2B.

Is there legit thought about him taking over for Iguchi?

I seriously doubt it, but they can showcase him for a trade or maybe develop him as a utility IF.

Now Mark Gonzalez has implied that Fields has been playing the OF in today's chicagosports.com Q&A.

I guess it's too much to expect the Sox beat writers to accurately report on the team's top prospect.

:rolleyes:If only there were some kind of information superhighway where the box scores were available and you could actually look up information like that.

A friend of mine who scouts the IL told me that he's seen Fields getting some outfield work in during the fielding and batting practice portions of warmups at a couple of different places (Knights Stadium and on the road.) Not overly impressed by his outfielding, but loves his hitting.
