View Full Version : What did Farmer and Singleton do to Tigers' Radio Guys?

I was listening to the Rangers-Tigers game last night on XM, and the Detroit broadcasters (Dan Dickerson and Jim Price) were building up the upcoming series at Comerica Park between the White Sox and Tigers.

It started with discussions regarding how the games are all sold out. Then they were talking about "pay back," how the Detroit fans will be looking to give something back and get even with the White Sox for last weekend's sweep.

But then they commented that they were personally looking forward to getting some measure of revenge against Ed Farmer and Chris Singelton. "We're really going to get them back for what they did."

What did they do to raise the ire of the Detroit broadcasters? Are the Tigers radio guys that sensetive to trash talk? Or was there something more that I missed?

I was listening to one of the games and I thought they got along. Didn't they sing Happy Birthday to Singleton?

What context did they say it in? Was it an "all in good fun" crack, or "those two are a**es and we are going to take them out" text? I was under the assumtion they got along and had good natured fun, nothing close to resembling hatred, but I could be wrong.

Farmio threw a one-hitter against the Tigers on Friday night and Singleton had a walk-off granny at Saturday night's game.

How could you miss that?

Farmer cornered them and talked about golf for 3 hours and Singleton talked about his bike and Hot Dog Thursdays at the park while taking a breath between every word.

Too funny! They also asked them about their hotel rooms.

Too funny! They also asked them about their hotel rooms.
Then they had a race back to the rooms to see who would get there first. Farmer taking one way and Singleton taking the other... Some how Farmer was already back at the room in just a towel and unpacked by the time Singleton got there... Apparently Chris had run into Sean Abner on the concourse and they got into an extensive conversation about the sock puppet joke they played on Frank Thomas that really wasn't funny nor did it make sense.

It was most likely an attempt at humor. Maybe it's an inside joke. Maybe Farmer and Singleton stole their beverages or did some clowning around.

Dickerson's a pretty much striaght laced broadcaster. He's not controversial or confrontational. Price is horrible to listen to as a fan because he's breaths into the mic like Darth Vader, he eats on the air, and he overcompensates any attempt at a homerism allegation by going too far the other way.

If what they did to the Tiger's radio guys is as painful as what they do to Sox fans listening to their coverage of the games, I can see why there might be a problem.

I was waiting for a Tiger fan to weigh in. Sounds like much ado about nothing. Typical dumb media stunt.

Just play ball.

I listened to the broadcast of Farmer last weekend, and I believe it had to do with foul balls that were hit into the booth. Farmer could not catch a rocket that was hit into his booth on Saturday and the Detroit broadcasters were saying he should of had that catch. On Sundays game a soft fly ball was hit into the Tigers broadcast booth and they could not come up with the catch. Farmio was making fun of them big time.

John Rooney... should have paid him.

Since Farmio loves golf...I am going to assume that Singleton and Farmer beat their behinds in golf.

I heard the comment last night. I'm pretty sure it was good natured. Farmer and Prince are friends.

I believe Farmer locked them in a room and told them for 5 hours about how if this game goes into extra innings hes going to miss his flight...

I think Farmer explained flight.

Farmio probably said he's win a bundle on a Notre Dame/Michigan State matchup.

Or he hated playing in Detroit in 1973 because the fans were tough on him.

Maybe he also stated he was a better announcer than Ernie Harwell!!! And if he said that, I'd go after him too.

Perhaps after the White Sox break down and hire at least one professional broadcaster for one of their four positions. :dunno:

Well, to that, too.

I was referring specifically to the belief that Rooney left over money. He had a deal with the Cards, he knew he was leaving months before it was announced. It had nothing to do with the White Sox or Score's offer. He wanted to go home. Cheap and stupid strikes again!

God forbid the team in the second largest market in America hires a competent and professionally trained announcer.
