Ughh....Josh Beckett is such a ****ing pitching machine this year:mad: ESPN hit the nail right on the head when they said Boston had the best 1-2 punch in baseball

Darn.

Still 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd

Why are we the only team that beats their brains in?

One thing that's for sure is that I'm sure the Tigers don't want to have anything to do with us come October!

sorry guys I wouldn't have much faith in Boston beating the Tigers once in this series.

Boston's far to crippled to win this year, they made a good run but the wheels are falling off the bus.

5-0 now on a sean casey single.

You guys said it. If the Sox want to catch the Tigers, they are gonna have to take matters into their own hands.

Beckett seems to not know how to throw anything aside from his fastball...

I love his stuff but man he can be frustrating to watch. I still like the trade that got him though.

Top 7, 5-3 Detroit, they didn't hit a home run yet, the 4BBs is something to worry about. The bullpens are being put to use.

I don't care who wins this game, but whoever wins, I'm rooting for tomorrow too. A sweep for either team is ideal at this point as long as the White Sox keep winning their games.

7-4 going into the ninth. I hope Detroit brings in Jones, I have a feeling Boston will tee off on him.

Normally I don't think I could handle Ortiz hitting a walkoff slam given that ESPN would probably talk about it for a week, but it'd sure be nice to see one tonight!

Looks like Boston has Lopez, Gonzalez and Crisp coming up in the 9th. Hopefully they can get something brewing for Ortiz.

Actually, I am rooting for Det. to sweep this series, even before it started. The way I see it, it's better to put some distance between us and Bos. and Minny, since they are so close. Secure a playoff spot first, then worry about the division. Yes, it would be nice to win back to back division titles for the first time ever, but I will be satisfied with making consecutive playoff appearances for the first time. Besides, we have more direct games to chase down Det. than we do against Bos.

I'm definitely rooting for Boston to take the series, I want the best of both worlds. If Boston wins the next two and the Sox take care of their business by sweeping these hapless schmucks, then the Sox over these four days would pick up 1.5 games on the Red Sox (who are idle on Thurs) and 2.5 games on Detroit (potentially 3 as they play Texas later Thurs evening). Not bad for four days' work.

Just as long as Detroit doesn't sweep, I'm cool. Let those guys beat up on each other a bit. If we take care of business against the Royals, we'll gain on somebody.

Nice win for Detroit.
If the Sox were out of this race, I'd definitely root for Detroit. But we're in, so I can't.
But a Red Cub loss isn't all bad.

That puts both the Red Sox and the Twins 3 games back of the White Sox for the Wild Card, but the Wild Card should only be considered as a safety net.

Hell, we're a game ahead of the Yankees (although tied in the loss column) for 2nd best record in the league despite the 3-12 stretch last month.

They had to play the Mets while we got to play the Cubs.:redneck

I want the divisional lead ASAP. I want home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Any help we can get to assure that is great.

Looks like Boston is trying their damndest not to make the playoffs. Oh well. Looks like the Wild Card is shaping up to be a 2-horse race, and again, I'm not scared of Minnesota and their vaunted 1-man rotation.

Yup. I'm just about ready to write the Red Sox off, too.

If New York takes 4 out of 5 this weekend, that could just about cook their goose.

Well it would be nice if Boston wins tomorrow, to help us get back to 5.5 back. If they don't, I hope NY wins all 5 games and pretty much pushes Boston out of the playoff race

According to this article, he's out for the year.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AuNs5smchnHGmxpx8jRO8j8RvLYF?gid=260815 102&prov=ap

That's a tough break ( no pun intended ) because he's such an integral part of the Tigers. I really don't like to see good players go down in the heat of a pennant race. I realize his injury might indirectly help the Sox, I just like to see two teams going at it at full strength.

Wells picks off Rodriguez at 1B and the announcers say this...

"That's Wells' first pick off of the year and it couldn't be any bigger than that!"

What! Top of the first 0-0 and the first batter of the game is on first base. "Couldn't be any bigger than that" ???

Just turned on ESPN. I feel for any Tigers fans watching this broadcast because all they can talk about is the Red Sox vs. Yankees five game series coming up this weekend. Meanwhile, the team with the best record in baseball is going for the three game sweep.
