How's this for a parallel with 2005: In 2005, the Sox had a big lead and held off the Tribe, with their H2H domination being a major factor in Cleveland's inability to get ahead. In 2006, the Tiggers have (had!) the big lead, but the H2H domination by the Sox could be the key to them still ending up in 2d!

Detroit's collars are getting awful tight. IROID's meltdown was a great indication of that.

They also used their bullpen quite a bit going into Boston.

Now the Sox need to assert themselves against the Royals.

Sox showing that they ARE the defending champions, whereas the Tigers (and I-Roid) are showing signs of cracking. What the hell was with that meltdown?!?!?! I do like players who play with some passion, but what the hell was that all about?

Go Sox, beat the Royals (especially Wednesday, my first game this season) and have the Red Sox sweep the cruddy Tiggers under the rug, we'll have the division soon enough!

Detroit's collars are getting awful tight. IROID's meltdown was a great indication of that. You could FEEL the Tigers pressing all game. Anybody who says that Leyland would have used practically his whole bullpen in a "regular" game is nuts. The Tigers needed to get out of the South Side with a win, and instead they're off to Boston with their tails between their legs. Today was a major tipping point in this season. The Sox have got their mojo back.

Great game all around by everyone. Garcia picked up where Mark left off yesterday. Jose started it off in the first game, and our starters fed off that game and ran with it. We just have to stay focused and come out tomorrow, and not have any type of letdown whatsoever. The Royals always play us tough, so we have to keep this intensity and focus. So here's to you Jon Garland:gulp: , have that sinker working and keep the momentum going against KC. this is gonna be one hell of a last month and a half.:supernana:

What an amazing weekend. Over the years we were in the position of the Tigers..."miracle teams" of 1972, 1977, 1990, etc....who began to fade in August. In 2006, the tide has turned...the White Sox played with 100% poise and confidence across all three games...the Tigers look like a different team than the team that has lead the AL all season.

We witnessed the "heart of a champion" this weekend. Please...no letdown against KC.

I notice there were no posters complaining about how Freddy was getting squeezed. The Polanco strike 3 to end the 7th was a foot high and 6 inches inside. Still, it never seems to even out. No premature celebrating needed, at least for the players. There's games to be played right in front of them. NO LETUPS AGAINST KC!

Yep! Everyone will sing a different song if KC puts a whoopin' on us. I went through a game by game scenario, with pitching matchups, etc. By all accounts, the Sox will be only 3.5 games back of Detroit when they meet again next week. This is with the Sox losing one to KC and losing 2 at Minnesota, while Detroit loses two at Boston and split with Texas.

They play games for a reason. Things do not always work out how they should.

Also, you may want to check your math. You have the Sox going 4-3 and the Tigers going 3-4, yet the Sox pick up 2.5 games? :?:

Won't matter though, our pitchers are firing on all cylinders. If they pitch like they pitched this weekend (bullpen included), and the Pods/Gooch combo kicks into gear, we'll be unstoppable. Literally.

Not like we weren't this weekend. :gulp::gulp::gulp:

I still can't root for a team closer to us in the standings. The only team I'm rooting for the next couple weeks is the White Sox. I'm suspending scoreboard watching until August 28.

I just want at least 9-5 the next two weeks, and we'll be in good shape one way or the other.

Interesting thing about that play in the ninth is that either Uribe or Anderson would have had it. If Mackowiak had been in center, Uribe would have made a spectacular over the shoulder catch and Jenks would have had the day off.

This was a huge series and the Sox and they showed why they are the best. I love this team!

Like everyone else on this board, I'm as happy as a pig in... well, I'm pretty darn happy that the Sox swept the Tiggers. I think the Yankees series was a turn-around series for the Sox and that we're on a roll right now. My, my, isn't it great to be a die-hard Sox fan right now? It will be even better in the coming days, I bet.

:gulp: Cheers, everyone!!

Did you hear Ozzie when the reporter asked him if he was worried if the team might let down their guard againist KC? Ozzie said yes. The fact that Ozzie is aware of this makes me think he's not going to let the team undo all the work they just did.

I would hope at this point the players realize that they haven't necessarily dominated the Royals this season. I'm confident that they fully understand the opportunity that's presenting itself right now. Just no relapsing into July-ball and things will be looking very good for these guys...

Well, just a few points...

It was nice to see Freddie get the win; early on I had my doubts because of starting off behind in the count and rolling breaking balls that seemed to break over the heart of the plate. After the Casey double I had a feeling the White Sox would win.

KC will be no pushover; Ozzie is right to be worried about a letdown.

The Tigers have hit a bump in the road; to think they've totally imploded may very well be premature. If that team has any leadership, they'll get their act together.

That play in the ninth between Uribe & Anderson was inexcusable. If Anderson was not calling off Uribe he better be pulled off to the side and told, and it sad if he has to be told, that it is HIS outfield. I don't care about veterans, meandering shortstops, or flocks of geese. Anderson is the boss in centerfield. God forbid he blows out a knee because of a lack of communication.

Now that was white sox baseball at it's best.

Now it is on to KC - Redmond tomorrow could be tough but the other three starters can be had. Hernandez was bad against us but then had a good outing so you never know.

The tigers get Beckett,Schilling and then Wells in Boston. The carmines should have a chance.

This could be a wild ride the next seven weeks. The sox can win this thing, it can be done.

That's when one of the other IF has to take charge and prevent a catastrophe.

I agree Freddy looked a bit shaky the first few innings, but then he seemed to find his hard slider and that set up the curve ball much better. It was almost the same story with Miner. I don't know what Leyland said to him but he suddenly became a pitcher again after being all over the place before that.

Sox need to take at least 5 of the next 7. I doubt the Tiggers can match that, so they'll gain at least one more game before rolling into Detroit next week. I'll be more than happy to start that series only 4.5 back.

It seems like those near collisions have been occuring waaaaay too often in the field. I don't know if these guys just can't hear over each other or what. To me, it looked like Anderson was calling it and definitely had the right-of-way. Who's the third party involved there?

Either way, that would be the most unecessary of injuries if one of these guys goes down due to that amateur crap.

I only got to see the first three innings of this game; but, from what I saw, it looked like Freddy was more confident in himself, especially when allowing runners on base (Detroit could've done much more damage in the first couple of innings; but, he got out of it). How could we ever have known that Alex Cintron would tame the Tigers once again? That was quite a gutsy bases-clearing double in the second! I'd have to say the big momentum shifter (since Detroit was starting to claw back in the game at the game) was Freddy not allowing Casey to score after his ground rule double (in the 5th, IIRC--heard it in the car).

I like the fact that this offense seems to be clicking once again. Now, it's time for Garland, Vazquez, Contreras, and Buehrle to take care of KC and let's pray that Boston sweeps the Tigers.

It's a race again in the Central AND they have a slight lead in the wild card race to boot.

There must be ZERO chance...none, nada, nyet of a let down against Kansas City not while Detroit is at Boston. They have to keep winning games.

What a series! The only way this could have been any better would have been if I-Roid had physically attacked the umpire, leading to a lengthy suspension.

The Sox played really well all weekend. Contreras set the tone with that first game. He allowed the bullpen a day of rest, which allowed Ozzie to pull Buerhle at just the right time yesterday. Today, after a typical slow start, Freddy pulled his head out of his ass and mowed them down through the middle innings. It wasn't the cleanest outing ever, but he protected the lead and deserved to win.

See what happens when you get good pitching? There's no stopping us if guys keep throwing the ball the way they did this weekend.

I was wondering if maybe the ninth-inning crowd noise made it difficult for Uribe and Anderson to hear each other.

That was a rare bad jump by Brian. He kinda froze on that ball. Uribe saw that and went running out there to try to bail BA out. Juan would have been better off letting BA bail himself out. The only reason Anderson didn't catch it was he crashed into Uribe.

Everything looked good except for that miscommunication by Anderson and Uribe in centerfield.Yeah, a collision would've put a damper on the festivities. Looked even scarier on the replay. Ozzie was cussing when he came to get Thornton, and Anderson wasn't within earshot, so that leaves . . .

Good to see Freddie live up to his big-game reputation. The first half-dozen balls we put in play against Miner were pretty much crushed. I couldn't believe he lasted as long as he did.

Another key RBI by Anderson was good to see. But Iroid's meltdown was the capper. May it go down in history as their version of Santo losing his cool in '69. Not what you want from your veteran in a tight(ening) race. :bandance:
