One down, two to go. Then let's see how the Tiggers stand up to national media pressure and predictions that they'll choke. People keep comparing 'em to the 2005 Sox, but these guys never stretched out to a 15-game lead, and they've got US chasing 'em.

I agree. It seems like a long time since we had a great game like this.

It's great to see them win a must-win type of game at home where they not only get stellar pitching, but rough up a stellar pitcher. It doesn't get much better than that.

That was an outstanding performance by Jose indeed! I don't know about any of you guys; but, I felt relaxed while watching the entire game. As if we didn't NEED that one!!!

The catalys of this offense tonight was Podsednik getting into Verlander's head in the third inning. That's what won our beloved so many games last year. We need him to do that more!!! When Pods is clicking, so seems to be the rest of the offense, as well as an inability of the opposing pitchers to completely focus. Keep it up, Pods!

The Twins losing tonight just adds a cherry to the top of the sundae.

Great job by Contreras to go the whole way. He was efficient with his pitches, and that saves the bullpen for tomorrow. Now, Ozzie will have the luxury of keeping Buerhle on a short leash if he so chooses.

I was very relaxed - after the Yankee series, I think we all could feel this coming on, just not to such a supreme level - keep it up guys!!

Pods was an awesome distraction, but also mega-props to all the guys for ALL working the count the entire game and getting Verlander caught up in his bluff-the-hitter mindgames leading to his loss of velocity in the middle innings. The Sox got him out of his game and made him pitch to them. :D:

That was a great performance by Jose. As I stated in a thread earlier today, it's all about optimism. This pitching performance is gonna wake up the rest of this staff. Mark and Freddy are gonna feed off of this game, this is what championship teams do. This is the time of year that the experiences they went through last year are gonna pay off big time. I have no doubt that we are in the Tigers heads. We are 7 and 3 against them, and we just took their ace behind the woodshed. Here's to Mark tomorrow:gulp: . This is the start of our run ladies and gentleman.

That Chavez guy in Oakland would need to get 3 or 4 more errors for Joe to be considered. I could care less, really. All that hardware means squat. Funny thing is if you asked anyone in the league who they would take to play third, almost everyone would either say Crede or A-Rod. That's pretty good company, if you ask me. And Joe's a bargain, you can still build a team since he won't break the bank. I don't like Crede associated with that scumbag Borass, it just demeans his image somehow.

The Yankees fans still hate Jose for pitching poorly in a couple games against Boston. Contreras just wasn't comfortable in New York. I think the environs here suit him much better, especially now that his family is here. I'm not sure if he would have ever had this kind of success with the Yankees. A change of scenery makes all the difference sometimes.

That said, KW ripped Cashman off big time. Loaiza for Contreras? That's one of the most one-sided trades in recent memory. Right up there with Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.

Looked more like the Sox kicked the door off the hinges barged in with baseball bats and started wailing on the helpless kittens. Fur coats for all my friends, baby seal hunts got nothing on what the Sox got planned for these guys. No prisoners...

And the hunter becomes the hunted and it wasn't just any game they were trying to bag it was World Champions pelts and those don't come easy. You have to earn them and the Sox aren't going to roll over and play dead for these upstarts, their too young for primetime pitching staff and the rest of the wannabes.

Sol good, expect a big blowout tomorrow. The Sox smell blood now and it's open season on kittens...

Seriously, there's a lot of man love going around for Joe lately, and I just have to pile it on. If there was one position player that I had to build a team around right now, Crede would be on the very short list. He's looking to be the complete package - defense, hitting, and clutchness.

I hate to compare him to a Yankees player, but Crede could be our Jeter.

Chicken necks?

Perfect game - perfect. The bullpen didn't have to move a finger, the offense was knocking around base hits all over the place (even though some were left on, base hits speak more to me), and Contreras was amazing. Tonight took me back to October of '05 and it was a NICE feeling. Keep it up boys, and Detroit may not know what hit 'em.

Crede is amazing and I just do not see how they could even consider letting him go for the next few years (I hesitate to say ever/'a long time' for a few reasons - one, see: Jr., Griffey). IMO - He will get his money from the Sox (and I believe it will be this off-season), because if he doesn't, there will be too many  Sox fans to deal with.

I don't do predictions; never have, never will. I'm like Costanza, every instinct I've ever had in my life has been wrong. However, I did state a while ago that Detroit would have a slump at some point. Almost every team slumps at some point in a 162 game season.

As has been pointed out, Cleveland had Detroit on the ropes, but couldn't finish. Minnesota took a series from them. Tonight our guys handed them their ass. Could this be the start of a slump for Detroit? No disrespect to them. I'm not one who kept saying they weren't that good. They obviously are that good. But they are due for a slump, and tonight's game is just the type that can confirm for them that they are in one.

What a fantastic game tonite.

As a meaure of just how important the game was, there were 11 scouts at the game where ordinarily there might be three or four. Obviuosly, other teams are expecting to see both the Sox and the Tigers in the playoffs.

Nice to see a dominant pitching performance and hits that aren't homers.

Are all those 11 scouts standing around each posting this or something?

Anyone realize this was only Jose's 94th MLB start -- 98th if you include the postseason.

I'm happy about the win, but we've still got some serious work to do. Taking tomorrow's game would be something to really get crazy about. I'm hoping Mark is up to the challenge.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the game. I'll be marching in the Bud Billiken parade tomorrow.

Let's go White Sox!!!!!!!! Let's do this!!!!!!

I only had radio. Why was Hawk commenting on Crede's behind?:?:

I didn't see anyone else answer this for you, so I'll answer. Hawk was complimenting Joe for the way he bends at the knees to get lower to the ground ("see how he gets his butt down?") instead of just bending over at the waist, which Hawk says doesn't let you see the ball as well.

It's hard to throw complete games when you traditionaly dick around with a lot of batters (which for the most part he left behind sometime last August). And above a complete game it's even harder to throw a shutout.

I hate to compare him to a Yankees player, but Crede could be our Jeter.
On offense, I will agree with you because Crede is clutch.

On defense, Crede should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Jeter. Crede is probably the best defensive 3B in baseball, and without a doubt the most underrated defender in the game today. Jeter won two faux gloves, but he is bad defensively. He has no range whatsoever, which causes him to make routine plays look spectacular. From a defensive standpoint alone, Jose Valentin is probably better than Jeter. Jose obviously will make a boatload of errors, but the error will be outweighed by the balls that Jeter lets get by him for hits.

Jeter should have gone to third.

Okay if you could get the picture of JD after bagging a buck (photoshop a Detroit hat onto it) and put it on there with the 'open season' thing, that would be hysterical. :redneck

But I like the other ones, too. Big Foot with a Sox hat on it, and the latter, do it in huge text leading into smaller text, funny as well.

With the Sox leading 1-0 at the end of three, I was sure they had the game. I never think that way with such small leads, but the Sox looked like they had come to play right from the first pitch. They couldn't play a better game than this. In every phase, they bested Detroit. I only hope the rest of the starting rotation can put in some quality starts. It's amazing how much easier it is to win when not playing from behind. By far, best game of the year.

But we scored four of the five runs on homers.

True, but as it turns out, the first one was the only one they'd need.
