What a waste of talent

The sad saga of former Peabody High ace and Florida Marlins pitching prospect Jeff Allison , whose once-promising baseball career has been derailed by drug problems, took another disappointing turn Monday when, according to a Medford Police report, he suffered a heroin overdose.

Man, I had a thread about him in ST, when he left the team expressing my feelings about this guy. Some people see him as that spoiled wasted talent, adn hate him for that, but I honestly have gotten to the point where I cant help but feel for the guy. I really hope he kicks his habit, and becomes the pro everyone thought he would, because if he keeps this up, the sad truth is that he wont be around too long.

Jeff Allison is done. There is no way he is going to ever be what he going to ever come close to predictions. He will be that feel good story if he ever comes back, but will never amount to anything. I hate this guy because i kept hoping and believing that he would come back and kick the heroin.

Man, what a waste. Hope he kicks it and gets back to playing ball soon.

This story gets worse and worse. This kid is going to wind up dead. What a waste. I saw him pitch in a high school game and was blown away by him.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a former Florida Marlins first-round draft pick who failed to appear at a court hearing.

Jeff Allison (http://fantasybaseball.usatoday.com/content/player.asp?sport=MLB&id=1239), a right-handed pitcher from Peabody, Mass., was arrested in October and charged with felony possession of heroin and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The News & Record of Greensboro said Guilford County Judge Susan Burch issued the warrant and a $2,500 secured bond after Allison missed the preliminary hearing. The judge barred the public from the hearing, and Allison's public defender declined comment.

I'm sure Coop could turn him around...

Sorry, I feel for the kid too, but that was just too easy of a set-up...

He was picked by the Cubs in the rule 5 and traded to the Reds.

It is disappointing that Allison will never live up to his potential, but thousands of prospects won't for one reason or another. I can't say I've ever hated a prospect for not fulfilling expectations.

I think he is a very sick young man and I hope he finds a way to turn his life around.

Well if Josh Hamilton can do it, so can this kid. It's really cool how teaching kids may be the way to change this guys life for the better.

No sarcasm necessary.

That's great news. I have some experience in this area and the things he's saying and doing sound very encouraging. Hopefully in a couple of years he'll be another Josh Hamilton story.

Ditto, big time.

I'm so glad to see him starting to move past that part of his life.

Allison has been placed on the inactive list of the organization's team in the Class A South Atlantic League, the Greensboro Grasshoppers. This comes after he had spent more than a year on the Marlins' restricted list.

This is really great news. I have gotten my hopes up about him staying on the straight before though, so I am just going to take this, right now, as a small victory.

I can say this about a lot of people. I'm happy for Allison. Hope the kid can stay on the path and whatever happens baseball-wise will be gravy. Great news.
