There must be some type of error. The Sox already lost (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=76759) this game and the season is ovah.

Oh well, I guess they didn't get the memo.

Way to come back!!! :supernana:

The offense let a few chances slip away in the early innings but they fought back in the 9th and 11th. Dye is clutch yet again.

Garland vs. Big Bird tomorrow. I like the match up and look forward to back to back to back bombs!!!

Ive been down on the SP this year, but how on earth can a team with these guys like PK, Dye, Thome, Crede, Gooch, and others not be a part of post-season play.

We need to get there and defend our flag.

This was a win that could really propel this team to great things. Funny thing is....I feel pretty good about our next two starters.

Come on boys...I have been so gloomy this year, but this win showed some serious SERIOUS ballz...Konerko, Dye, Garcia, and Jenks were STUDS tonight.

Beating Mariano last year was proof we were real...Beating him this year will do the same (I hope).

We still did not play great baseball, but somehow found a way to win. That is what they say about GREAT teams...they find ways to win when they dont bring their A game.

Major league kudos to Freddie who was on time over his last 4... Paging Jon and Javy....we need you boys. Go bring us a series.

Man, that felt good. And against Rivera too! Proctor was making me nervous but I guess he didn't bother JD.

Proctor blew through hitter that can't hit high 90s heat. Anderson and Cintron may never hit a 98 mile per hour pitch. Pods usually wont.

But Gooch, Thome, PK, and Dye? Much different story. I even said that in the Game Thread...Lets see the Proctologist go through our 2-3-4-5 hitters...

Truth is...he couldn't and wasn't man enough to. While he did nothing but throw the same fastball again and again to Anderson, Cintron and Pods...he mostly threw offspeed to Thome and Dye. Once Dye got into rythum with it, he was able to go with his fastball and knock it into center.

Procter looked good against Anderson...he looked ordinary against Dye.

Lots of times closers get an undeserved W after blowing the lead. To put it mildly, this was not one of those times. Way to go, Bad Bobby.

We'll see what happens next, but that game was a gut check. This win probably meant more psychologically to the team than two wins against pick 'em: Baltimore, KC, Toronto. This was probably the hottest team in the league, and we beat their best in Rivera. On the post-game, Paulie said Mariano threw the pitch in the one spot where he (Paulie) was looking, high and away. Good guess, PK.

Oh my God...how do you lose to Burgos and the Royals?

Is it possible Baseball Tonight will lead with the White Sox win?

Not likely, Bos and NY loss = 4 straight NL games, and a Mike Piazza love fest, a Mike Piazza "Shea's Greatest Moment" segment (some go ahead regular season HRs, wow, PK has a ton more home moments than that, Thome or Frank didn't get this kind of coverage for their returns this year) and an excuse to show Fisk's Boston HR in a segment of "Top 3 HRs by a catcher" (NYM, NYY, BOS). And now a couple Atl/Phi clips, this show is such a joke. Talking about Liriano: "uhh, when he pitched you thought, uhh, that you could probably win", no **** sherlock.

Hitman...I thought Garcia was brilliant over his last 4...they got nothing but a bunt single and a flipper hit after Thurston Howell's 2 run homer.

I was very impressed with Freddie tonight. Yes, I do believe his fastball is gone, but he can use his other stuff and his toughness to win games. He was amazing tonight I thought...not merely decent.

After listening to douchebag Yankmee fans on another board after the series in NY that was sweet. They break Wang's scoreless inning streak and PK takes Mariano yard to tie the game.

Ive been down on the SP this year, but how on earth can a team with these guys like PK, Dye, Thome, Crede, Gooch, and others not be a part of post-season play.

Pretty easy. Maybe the middle relief used up all their clutch performances last year. It's been a Catch 22 for Ozzie. Do you risk the starter blowing the lead or the pen?

The offence comes through again. To go deep in the playoffs you have to have the other half with you. Most of the better teams in the AL have 2-3 starters to limit run production. You won't see any 5 man rotations.

Seems like the Sox are turning it up a notch against the better teams. This my be the best month for them.

That was a great game to go to, especially considering that there were some classless Yankee fans nearby.

Classless Yankee fans? I'd never have thought of that.

GREAT win for us tonight..I watched the 8th-11th innings at a friends house. One of our other "friends" was there as well, rooting for the Yankees no less. Let's just say my Sox fan friend and I got the last laugh. Paulie just has a knack for the clutch...anytime you hit a homer off of Mariano Rivera, you know that it is absolutely huge. Great piece of hitting by Dye to win it as well. Big attaboy to Jenks for giving it his all and keeping the score tied at 5.

Great, clutch, ugly win for the Sox.

Ozzie's stubborness with starters/mack in CF is getting on my nerves, however. :(:

What a great way to make my 1,500th post! What a Sox comeback. We didn't know if we could get to Rivera, but he's another closer to add to the list! Way to go Sox. Twins take care of the Tigers, moving closer one game at a time!

Is it me, or does Johnny Damon have a bigger puss arm than Scott Podsednik? I was concentrating on Iguchi rounding third (against my wishes), thinking he was going to be thrown out by 5 feet, and I didn't even see the ball approaching the plate when Iguchi crossed it. Put anyone with a halfway decent arm in CF on that play, and he's a gone goose. Or gone Gooch.

He probably has the worse arm of the two but Podsednik better to be ready to throw the ball. Farmer and Singleton questioned the non throw during the beginning of the game when Damon was rounding third and Podsednik caught the ball in very shallow left field. Both said any half way decent throw would have nailed him.

They later got on him on a ball hit to left that he didn't even bother to throw to second (and nobody was on at the time).

I wished I went today instead of yesterday (sigh).

Classless Yankee fans? I'd have never have thought of that.

Here's what I don't understand: if you talk to a Noo Yawka, they'll tell you that Noo Yawk is the only acceptable place on Earth in which to live, breathe, exist, etc. Heck, most of 'em cannot even imagine leaving Manhattan for 5 minutes. So how the #$%^ were there so many Yankee fans in attendance tonight? Do they realize that Comiskey Park is not located within NYC? Shouldn't spending 11 innings out here in Cowtown have caused them to spontaneously combust or something?

What a worthless city. I can't wait to move back to Chicago, and I haven't even left yet.

don't get me wrong - i'm psyched as hell we won BUT:

terrible baserunning: thrown out at second four times and third once

lousy defense: I never want to see Mack in CF again

we are not going anywhere unless these two critical elements of our game are corrected in a hurry

let's do this!

Havent read any replys here, but I can just sense that if we had lost tonight that there would have been damn near 20 pages already.

I have a tip for anyone if you would like to see walk off winners at the park, go to the games I go to. 2 last year and now 2 this year. Amazing amazing game. I lebron Jamesed every last fingernail to the nub from the 8th inning on, but what a great finish.

Who cares about the botched bunt, missed steals and not so clutch at bats until Paulie and JD. Thats a white sox winner and could be the start of a big run.

Ozzie no More Mack in center, I was joking with everybody in my section how many runs Rob would cost us tonight and boom he gives one up in the very first frame.

Bad Bobby Jenks Yeeeeeessssssss

So how the #$%^ were there so many Yankee fans in attendance tonight? Do they realize that Comiskey Park is not located within NYC?It has always been that way. The world is full of front-running Yankee fans who have never spent a moment in NYC, and Comiskey Park is always overrun with them whenever the Yankees come to town. They are people who decide their allegiance based on the odds of winning, not their heart.

Chicago is not alone in that regard. There are tons of students at the university here wearing Yankees caps, and if you ask them about it, you get the usual "they're the best, man. They're always in contention. Steinbrenner rules" crap.

A friend of mine has a little brother similiar to this but he may be the biggest bandwagon jumper that I know. The last time I was at his place he had 5 ballcaps hanging on his wall: White Sox, Red Sox, Marlins, Angels, Diamondbacks.

Also taking the train home yesterday there were alot of people on their way to the Sox game- lots wearing Yankees gear. I conversed with a few of them, one couple was actually visiting from NY and grew up near Yankee stadium so they're legit. Everyone else was either exactly as you described. One guy said he was a Cubs fan so he was going to cheer against the Sox even though he hated the Yanks just as much. What a waste of tickets.

I am for one. This was the best win of the year. If the season turns aroiund and the Sox truly take control of their destiny, we will be looking back at this game. Let's hope this is the start of the much needed win streak. The team needs more than one good game in a row.

Expect it - MacDougal WILL close. Great game - need MORE!!!

Thornton has the stuff and mentality to close too - as long as we're up by more than one!

I have no doubts MacDougal and Thornton can get it done tonight if need be. Still, I'm hoping for an open-the-floodgates whipping on the ol' stringbean!

That's what I meant. Any Sox or Cubs game on WGN is on nationally, unlike Bulls' games, which may be on only in Chicago.

Jenks not allowing the runner to score from 3rd with < 2 outs was huge. Hopefully Jenks has created some momentum for the rest of the team.

Was just eating my lunch and watching Paulie's game tying Homer replay(Track, Wall, Tie Game as called by the YES Network). The only thing better than Rivera knowing it was gone on contact? The dude in the first row making a sweet barehanded grab.
A lot of bullpen use by both teams last night, interesting to see how they perform tonight. Obviously no chance for Jenks to make an appearance. At least B - Mac is fresh if Garland needs help.

In Sandy's case, it ain't gonna make any difference at all, an obvious liability at this point in his career that ain't gonna change. Even in his last stint with the Sox afew years ago, it was an obvious liability that teams regularly took advantage of.

Amazingly, he did throw out a basestealer in a game I attended 7/25 vs. the Twins. I think he nailed Tyner, but I'd have to look it up to be certain.

The Yankees ran on us last night, and I think they'll continue to run on us throughout the series. Garland is pretty decent at holding runners and pretty quick to the plate, but I'd like Ozzie to call a pitch out or two tonight just to deter the Yankees from running at will on us. I'm assuming Alomar will start tonight against Johnson.

I thinks it's Garcia and also Contreras who have to learn to speed-up their deliveries to the plate.

Absolutely, A.J. and Sandy are catching flak for not throwing out runners but the bottom line is that we have some of the easiest starters to run on. Freddy and Contreras are not very good at holding runners and teams take advantage of this.

I agree with a previous poster that we need to throw a pitchout or two and we also have to start throwing to 1st more. Right now, we're making it pretty easy on them to steal bases.

I'm not arguing that at all. It's just that I've seen so many throws this year that weren't even close to the bag.
