I believe this is happening in 10 minutes. I tried a search and only pulled up the old release of a pre-game drawing on August 8. I wonder how quickly they'll post results.

Anyone know differently?

Well, I have a 3 in 21,775 chance of winning your ring. :D: (I bought 2 tix)

I apologize if this is a possible hijack, and if it is, I will start this up in the Parking Lot:
Is it bad that being from Chicago, I am cynical in that I just wish I had a legit chance on the up and up. NOT ACCUSING the Sox of anything, I have know too many promotions like this are predetermined whose brother's friend is going to win? Ex. I know 100% for a fact a friend of mine was chosen to shoot free throws, 3's, and a half courter randomly from the crowd...except he knew a week ahead of time he would be picked. He won over $1000

You are correct. I had a friend buy mine for me when they first became available because I wasn't sure there'd be any left when I got to Chicago for COTC II. As it turns out, I could've waited, but as long as I win it, who cares how I got it.

I think it's the tax implications. I don't know how much tax will be due, but it's sure to be a few thousand dollars. I can't really afford to take that kind of hit--then again, who can?--but if it gets me a World Series ring, I'll come up with the cash.

yeah, what's up with that. I thought for sure they would have sold all of the tickets. 20 bucks isn't that steep. The red sox sold out of thier raffle. It was 10 bucks each. Cost does make a difference. 20 bucks for a 3 in 100k chance is not good odds. Even for charity.
Notice that the Sox split always gets buyers. The variable price (as low as 2 bucks) will get the casual gambler to fork over cash, especially if it's "for charity". And the odds are decent. Last night's ammount was almost 7k. that means you had a 1 in 14,000 chance to win 7 thousannd bucks.

Also, someone said to me yesterday that the ring raffle should had other smaller prizes. That might have boosted sales if you knew you had a good chance for tickets, or autos, ect. The bulls raffle off a car every year, and have tons of lesser prises. Mind you, the raffle ticket's cost is $100.

I think it also hurt them that you couldn't buy a ticket over the Internet unless you were an Illinois resident. But I'm thinking the tax bite is probably the big reason.

It all depends on the tax bracket you fall in, but for the middle class folk look for it to be in the 30% range.

I believe it would be $5,000. The tax is 25% of the cash prize or fair market value of the prize if not cash. I may be wrong though.

The tax is 25% of the cash prize or fair market value of the prize if not cash. My question is... On things like this how do they determine "fair" market value? If none have been sold how do you figure? It has so much intrinsic value which is hard to put a number on.

It means you'd have to put up 25% of the value to collect the prize, which CWS will then forward to the IRS to be credited against your eventual tax liability.

It has so much intrinsic value which is hard to put a number on.the sox placed an estimate value of 20k as a potential retail value(provided you just called up jostens and wanted a ring with 88 diamonds)
that wasnt thier cost though, considering that they ordered over 500 rings, and 250 pendants(for the ladies)

The number was 072831, so if they were hoping to sell 100,000 tickets and they didn't sell them in sequential order, it would seem to be all good.

But you should write the Sox a letter to complain. It might end up like that time Chainsaw wrote a letter to Cool Dude Sunglasses and they sent him a box of free sunglasses. The power of the pen!!!

Along those lines, since they drew 6 numbers isn't it possible to draw one of the 56,000 ticket numbers not purchased? Even if the first bag only had zero's wouldn't there be a chance to draw one of the 55,999 not purchased?

I guess my first question is since they did it in lottery form instead of actually drawing a ticket what happens if one or more of the rings aren't claimed because they picked a raffle number that wasn't drawn (does the pot double for the next drawing? LOL)?

I am surprised at how they did this. This is the first raffle I've ever been a part of that was done like a lottery system. Every other raffle that I have seen they drew the actual tickets.

Anyways, I am not complaining, I didn't win not a big deal the money went to charity, but I was just kind of surprised that they took a chance at picking a number that no one might have and what their backup plan is if that is the case (or since it was obvoiusly edited did they stop after each number and double check that it had been sold and if not did they redraw).

I missed the show sitting in the bar through the rain delay, did they show the actual drawing? Or was it.......Oh, here are the numbers we secretly picked?

just wondering. Thanks.

I was in traffic getting diverted to the 31st and State parking lot when they drew the numbers. According to my wife, who watched on TV, they had Bill Melton, Moose Skowron and Minnie pull the balls out of a bag.

And i didn't have numbers anywhere even close :(
It was kinda staged, they numbers had already been picked. They just turned baseballs that had a digit on each ball.

I'm convinced that if it had been me and just three other people, I still would have lost.

My two tickets were in the 79000 range, so not exactly close...
