Here is what I believe is possible through the end of August...

Current records of Det, Chw & Min:

Det - 75-36
Chw - 65-44 9.0 gb
Min - 65-44 9.5 gb

After August:

Det - 85-49
Chw - 81-52 3.5 gb
Min - 77-55 6.5 gb

Here is how I came to that conclusion:

Chw schedule with Team played (record)
Ana (1-0); NYY (2-1); Det (2-1); KC (3-1); Min (2-1); Det (2-2); Min (2-1); Tb (2-1)

Det schedule with Team played (record)
Min (1-2); Chw (1-2); Bos (1-2); Tex (2-2); Chw (2-2); Cle (2-1); Nyy (1-2)

Min schedule with Team played (record)
Det (2-1); Tor (2-2); Cle (2-1); Chw (1-2); Bal (2-1); Chw (1-2); KC (2-1)

I think this is very achievable. I did not have us sweeping anyone.. if we were to sweep the 4 game series with Detroit with these records, we'd be 1.5 behind going into September...

What do you guys think of my numbers?

I think you're counting on the Tigers to lose way too much. They just don't lose. You have them losing 2 out of 3 to the Twinks?

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.Well they are supposed to line up against Santana/Liriano... But that didn't prove to be very effective last time:angry:

Yeah, this weekend really irked me as yet another team, this time the hapless Toons, refused, simply refused to shut the door on those stupid Tiggers. It's really obnoxious. I think all projections should be figured under the assumption that the Tigers will win every ****ing game for the rest of the season. Except against the Sox, of course.

You're projecting the Tigers to go 10-13? I think that is unlikely.

Sox just have to worry about being 4-6 back by the end of the month. They are up against tough odds, and really need some kind of September spark if they are still going after the division. If they can stay 4-6 back of Detroit, they should at least stay at the top of the Wild Card race while putting themselves within arm lengths of the division lead with a month of play left. If they fall 10 back this week, then I will be worried for the first time all season.

P.S. what happened to a Hermanson return? Is there no hope at all? I know it was a bad injury... but can't he give us a month at least? The Bullpen really didn't get the help it needed at the trade deadline.

Somehow I don't see us gaining 5.5 games while going 4-3 against Detroit. The rest of the league doesn't seem too interested in giving the Tigers a battle. You have to beat the team you're chasing when you get the chance.

But anyway here's what I hope happens:

Ana (1-0)
NYY (3-0)
Det (3-0)
KC (4-0)
Min (3-0)
Det (4-0)
Min (3-0)
Tb (3-0)

I think we'd be in good shape.

Thanks, JT. This math makes me feel better. We can do this.

I'd love to be proven wrong though. They would have lost 2 of 3 this weekend to Cleveland if dumbass Eric Wedge had any idea what he was doing.

You have them winning only one series the whole month. I'm not saying it's not possible, but they've avoided a slump for the past couple of months, and I don't see them losing 2 to the Twins or the Rangers.

Honestly, if we want to win this division, we're going to have to go on a tear... another patented 8 game winning streak, or maybe a 18-5 run in August.

Someone's going to get ultra hot between the Sox, DET, NYY, BOS, MIN and TOR.

I really think we're that team that is going to get red hot.

I think Toronto is pretty much done. We just have to win 2/3 from each series, and the rest of the pieces will fall into place. New York and Boston square off a lot, and will most likely beat up on eachother.

So that's it. Just win.....just win.

I would love to get back to 27 games over .500 by the end of this month, or as soon as possible next month. 27 over represents our high water mark for 2006, and to get back there after absorbing a 3-12 stretch would speak volumes about this team.

If we get back to where we were at our best, with a little bit of season left for one final push, I think we have more than enough on this team to grab a playoff spot.

As a result of the AL winning at a .611 clip in interleague play, somebody with a pretty damn good record is going to be sitting at home when the AL playoffs start.

You're projecting the Tigers to go 10-13? I think that is unlikely.

Is it as unlikely as the White Sox going 12-16 in the month of August last year?

I wish one of these two would run away with the thing, and pound the other into dust in the process.

So you think Detroit is gonna win the 110 games they are on pace too?

It's well into August now, so on-pace starts to become legit at this point. Even if they underachieve by as many as ten games, they're still winning 100 games.

The Tigers are showing a Chink in their armor lately. But I don't think it will be enough for the Sox to overtake the division. The Tigers have, by far, the toughest August schedule of the top 5 AL teams. Somehow, I'm not writing off the Twins just yet. They are way too close and still have lots of games remaining with the Sox and Detroit. I guarantee you that the the top 3 AL Central teams will have the best records in baseball. Someone will be sitting this one out, undeservedly so.
