Some of you may remember Auker telling many stories on the HBO series "When It Was A Game" back in the early 90's

Elden Auker, the submarine-style pitcher who struck out Babe Ruth, faced Dizzy Dean and helped the Detroit Tigers win their first World Series championship, died yesterday . He was 95.

He was on my 100 Years of the World Series DVD when they were talking about the 1935 Tigers.

He may well have been the last person alive that pitched to Ruth ( and there can't be that many more that even played against him )

I last saw him 4 years ago when he came to the Ted Williams memorial service at Fenway.

You're right, he was the last pitcher to face Ruth. Kind of sad, in a way, to lose this link to the past.

He was featured quite a bit on a lot of the ESPN Sports Century specials on Ruth or the Red Sox curses or other topics from that time.
