Did you see Orlando Hernandez throw a 52 MPH breakin ball? I think it was El Duque. I never saw anything like it. The guy made a half hearted swing but you could tell he was in shock. The ball broke right near his head.

I meant I thought it was still Hernandez pitching, I wasn't sure if he was still in the game at that point. I wasn't paying that much attention to the highlights until I saw the pitch.

I remember El Duque made Alex Rodriguez look like a goon on one of those in a game a few years back. Duque tried it in Rodriguez's next at-bat and Rodriguez hit it about 500 feet.

Think about how hard it is to go from a 89-90 mph fast ball to a 50 mph curve then it makes sense.

On the Mets homepage, the highlight link that's titled "El Duque triples, fans seven". It's at the very end of the clip.

That's like a wiffleball pitch or something. Amazing.

Oh yeah, the one A-Rod hit is still in orbit. He absolutely crushed it.

You aren't the only one. I miss him as well. If you could have guaranteed that guy to be healthy and give you 200 innings, it would have been worth bringing him back. However, KW knew that was impossible and I still think he made the right move getting Vazquez to fill out the rotation even though he hasn't lived up to expectations yet.

I always loved watching El Duque pitch, even when he was a Yankee. He was a legend in New York, but after last season's gutsy relief performances in the ALDS and World Series, his pitching is now a legend in Chicago. You can also give his "start pitching like a Cuban!" tongue lashing of Jose Contreras last year as what help key Jose's 2nd half and post season tear.

I remember that too, he destroyed that ball. Then he just dropped his bat and gave Duque a "don't try that again" stare.

How quickly people forget Shingo's frisbee.... That had to be 52MPH or less if I remember right...

Well, in his defense, ESPN DID call him Orlando Hudson. :?:
